    Hey everyone,
I'm sorry I know this has been discussed but I'm so bad at searching its ridiculous...
So went to check/add brake fluid to my reservoir on the handle bar, damn bolt are stripped. I'm in a F it and buy new vs fight to get old out. Ive read the Universal small colored ones for the R1 work just fine, they just lack the rear view mirror mount right?

do you mean the screw that holds the cover on and that the phillips/jis slots part is striped ?

pb blaster and you could use a chisel to get the screws moving.
or a dremel to cut a slot in it for a flat blade screw driver..

or carfully drill the screw head out untill the top part of the screw head falls off pull cover and grab remaining screw with vise grips to turn out
you would use a drill that would be the size used to for the tap
for the screw not the screw size drill
or one of those easyout type things that sears sells it is like a drill bit that cuts into then grabs the screw.

Oh I know I'm sure I could easily get the screw out honestly...its just old bulky and ugly....A nice small bright Red one would look great and I know ive seen/heard of people using certain parts from R1's so didn't know if this was one of them

that one would probably work better because your right I would have to replace the brake lever as well....good find thank you. Those compatibility charts are so inaccurate I never trust them

It appears to have been assembled from used parts?

There should be a dampening spacer (for vibration) on the bolt that fasten the cylinder arm to the perch.

From a life-sustaining standpoint, that last thing that I would try to find "a deal" on (or purchase mainly based on looks/appearance) are brake parts......

They put it together with the fuild window facing the outside of the bike.... and yes i agree that one thing you shouldn't go cheap on it front brake.

Go with a trusted brand. These one's are imported from China. The metal casting is most likely of poor quality and may snap under heavy force -- just when you need it most.

I went with this nissin one and I love it...although I changed out the res for a black one --- you get what you pay for here....

I second that. Though tempted, I avoid generic Chinese brake parts. I re-build good used Japanese ones and can be sure what I'm getting is sound, and it turns out the initial price and rebuild parts give me a decent m/c that's as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a similar new unit (and often, not much more than a cheapy one would have cost) with years of life in it yet.
