She is *so* on to that. She has even been known to lurk on C-List, checking out my ads. I did pick up a 1980 KZ550 LTD a couple of weeks ago she has shown interest in riding herself, so maybe that will buy me some goodwill :)

It's true, Hogfiddles is my role model.

Now that I bought a farm I need to fill the barn . . . . If only for financial stability.

All I know is that when mine mentions that the motorcycle isn't practical, I point to her 2 seat convertable. De'tente.

Well, I got the bike, but when the guy delivered it, I had a surprise sprung on me, in the form of a odometer/title discrepancy. He brought the bike to my house, and if not for the fact it was early, cold and I was half awake, I might have sent him back home with the bike. Anyhow, the odometer shows < 50K, and the title lists mileage as 25K! He knew nothing about it (selling it for his son-in-law). Looking at the bike, it is obviously missing the fairing, both the original mirrors and the clip ons are from something else (my bad...when I first looked at the bike I didn't notice that someone ground the top of the triple tree clamp to make room for them) I suppose one scenario is that the bike was involved in some minor accident that trashed the original above mentioned parts, including the gauges. But I gotta be honest... in the cold hard light of day, this does not look like a bike with only 25K on it. Mainly I am not sure how comfortable I am having this dumped in my lap, potential federal offense and all. The guy I bought it from is a heck of a nice guy, and as it happens a corrections officer, so I am pretty sure one phone call to him and the bike would be back in his driveway, and my $700.00 back in my pocket. What do you all think?

Anyhow, Hogfiddles, here is the VIN for your DB: JYA35H008DA000837

Make sure that the VIN on the title matches the label and the stamping on the headtube. Mileage on title has no bearing on the bike unless the mileage on THE BIKE is LESS. Than on the title. All your days is that when it was titled it had 25k, and between then and now it got ridden for another 25k. The only way they would match would if it were titled, and then never ridden.

Thanks for the number-- I'll put it in and see if its there yet.

#dragsta...Yes, I checked many of those things, and the evidence is inconclusive. I realize that 25K is not, relatively speaking, a lot of miles, but when you factor in the 33 years or so for the age of the bike, it makes things a little murkier. I don't think the bike was abused, but at the very least it was well used, and call me crazy, but I cringe every time I see JB Weld on a motorcycle.

#hogfiddles... I checked the numbers on the bike and the ones on the crankcase and steering neck match the title, so that is good. I understand your comments about the mileage, but this whole thing is still sticking in my craw somewhat. The PO, the son-in-law of the guy I actually bought it from, bought it from another guy who is on the title I have, on 08/18/2015, so I think it is a forgone conclusion he did not put almost 25K on the bike in < three months. All the original owner had to do was check the box that says "C - NOT Actual Mileage, Warning ODOMETER DISCREPANCY", but he did not do that, he opted for "A - Actual Mileage", hence the problem. If I hang onto the bike for a while, problem likely fades away, but if I had to sell it sooner than later, then I'm thinking, problem.

Oh, and not to hijack my own thread, but does anyone know what kind of Yamaha is in these pictures? The guy is selling it cheap, as a parts bike (no title) and has it listed as a 1988, which I know not to be true, but other than that...is this an 1100? yam.jpg yam2.jpg
