not necessarily....there are alternate ones for the 750 Seca that have find that wrap around parallel to the ground ( I guess they could fit the others, too.....though), and the factory ones for the '85-'86 bikes are different, too. Though, the mounting points are probably the same, so others will fit....... Maybe that's what k-moe meant------

Crash bars are a dope spot to place the AUX light if you are switching up the front end.

Ya. I know about the cool finned case guards, but the fitment points are the same that any of the crash guards from an xj650 will fit. I am also aware of the differences for the XJ700, which I'm pretty sure won't make fitment difficult. I was only thinking about the practical part of the equation.

    As I said----
So, in the next day or two I will swap engine guards around on a 650 and a 700. I have a 650 on my left right now… And plenty of 700 as well as 650 and 750 engine guards to compare

I'll check.... I have a set of the finned ones for a 750 Seca, as well as a set for the 900 Seca. I KNOW for a fact that they are different sizes, but I don't know for sure on the mounting point, so I will check that tonight for you.

I think this could be a case of my bias toward being able to make my own stuff is showing. My natural asumption is that if it doesn't quite fit I'll just make it fit.

I did see your comment Dave; I just wanted to clarify that your thinking is correct.

I know what you mean, but sometimes it is just too much work to fit a part that is not designed for your bike.

    Ok, the following pics are all on a 1982 xj650r ( non-turbo)
    650/750 - fits
    image.jpg
85-86 xj700/750/X - does NOT fit.... Upper holes do not line up, plus there is a gap between them of approx 1/4"
    image.jpg
    XJ750 Seca finned - fits
    image.jpg
    XJ900r Seca finned - fits
    image.jpg

    Hope that helps a little

I think the finned ones are pretty rare, aren't they?

There are rare enough That I've only ever seen three sets for sale; 2 on Ebay (one current and the other four years ago), and a set that was in the display case at my hometown Yamaha dealer in '82. I recall that crash bars were generally frowned upon by most motorcyclists back then, and the cool-looking cast aluminum guards sold at a premium over the tubular steel ones.

I didn't realize that there was a unique set of the XJ900 "finned" bars.......Dave, do they have XJ900 stamped onto the back plate, or ?????.

I was only aware of two different versions, a 650 version and a 750 version of the finned bars (one of the two versions has the engine size stamped into the back of the mounting plate).

And no, nothing besides XJ700 crash bars will fit XJ700 (or XJ750-X) models.....although I think Virago crash bars will work with a little tweaking.

The cast finned bars are quite purty, but realize they are just for show, it's doubtful that they would protect anything in case of a crash or even a stand-still drop, as they are cast aluminum.

The 750 ones have 750 stamped in the back. The supports are curved. The plate for the u - bolt is smaller than the 900 plate

The 900 ones do not have a stamp, the supports are straight, and the plate for the u - bolt is larger than the 750 plate... I assume for larger bolt and thicker frame.

The ONLY 900's I've ever seen these on are the finned ones in some of the original 900 ads and test reports.

I agree... More cosmetic than strength---- one u-bolt and one mounting bolt don't add a lot of support ......

Good to hear you got some. Plenty on eBay.

You'll want to start a new thread as this one is probably only viewed by people with crash bars for sale and the people discussing the finned bar fitment etc.

do you mean the aftermarket double-bucket seat, or the tall- backed King/queen seat that was the factory option seat with the back support bar?

Either one hog fiddles. I don't like the stock one on it. I want something that has the 2 seats molded into it
