    Your term, not mine.

I prefer "newly inspired vintage motorcycle enthusiast." But I'm starting to get worried.

    Read this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=24010.html

    Then read this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14581.html

Then go check your rear brake for delamination, before you ride another mile: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html

An old bike is NOT a "turnkey" proposition, by any stretch. It's a safety issue as much as it is your potential to be able to actually ride and enjoy your bike.

You can't take it lightly, it will bite you. If you ever get it to run right.

in retrospect, it would've been nice to have a list of "must have" tools/supplies for doing a bike resto. to save countless trips to the store and shopping and searching on the internet. some tools are pretty obvious, but i never heard of KROIL or an impact driver before joining this site.

think this warrants it's own thread?

    Another bump.

FWIW I've noticed a reluctance by several new members to taking the advice the older members are giving.
Why y'all gonna ask if ya ain't gonna listen?

It's that time of year when people wanna get on the road RFN, but fail to do the steps to get there properly. I miss the days of relentless sarcasm, and ridiculously technical explanations that made everyone have an epiphany. I miss Fitz.

We should band together and form a system. A team of 2 will look after his kids, 3 guys will go to work for him, and one guy lets him borrow a laptop.

From my memory: He changed jobs, but to one without internet access. He lives on a tight budget, and does not have internet access at home.

Thanks for the info. .. I'm not new to motorcycles by any means but I'm a new xj owner and appreciate any advice. I'll definitely have to take a look at the drum and shoes

I've owned my 82 550 Seca for two years and I feel confident traveling 70mph on the highway due to the guru's on this site and especially Chacal.
