Any others that like to camp? I have all the gear I need and love to camp, hike and fish but have not done any serious camping on the bike. A collapsible fishing rod is a must for bike travel and works well for me.
It would be nice to hear from others that like to camp with their bike to recommend and compare equipment. My first trip may be to High Falls GA. It's a couple of hours away and will give me an chance to try out some gear before I venture farther. South GA, around Waycross, would be a nice area to camp too. Have been to the swamp a few times. In the 90's I rode to Jax Beach, FL a lot. Friends lived there and at the time it only cost about $15 round trip in gas. I miss those rides.

Be sure you get a tent that is big enough to fit the bike in.;)

    Bike stays outside.
One person requires a 2 person tent if you want to keep your gear dry.
Those cheap Chinese jet stoves are wonderful.....if all you want to do is boil things (works for me, but maybe not for everyone).
Sporks are the best thing ever.
A one-egg frying pan really is big enough if all you need to do is cook for one person, and you have to pack small.
Always bring earplugs, because shitty neighbors somehow show up even when camping near an out-of-the-way forest service road.

There are several threads on ADVRider, each containing years and years of gear comparisons.

    Ain't it the truth?
It baffles me, I go camping to commune with nature, but there always are the ass-hat wearing douche waffles that show up. . . . .

    Sorry about the hi-jack.
Haven't camped with the bike so no other input just wanted to use the "ass-hat wearing douche waffle" term in a public conversation.

I have 3 tents to choose from. I will just keep a tarp in my saddle bags in case I need to cover the bike. For all of my adult life I have ridden mostly full time, so I think about being able to take things on the bike before I buy them.

I agree about the "ass-hat wearing douche waffles".
People camp out to party and play loud music. Most of the good places won't allow the noise. I only want to her the sounds of nature when I am in nature. That beats any music for me.

I don't see any thread highjacking, just good conversation. ;)

I haven't tent camped in a long while, unless you count putting on a uniform and "camping." However, there are small propane stoves that work great for light camping. Sleeping bags that are light and thin can be purchased as well. Pack dry goods instead of anything liquid and you will reduce weight and space. Also, a roll matt can make the sleeping arrangements a bit more comfortable.

If I'm camping, I want to be enjoying a fermented or distilled beverage of some kind. Need to leave room for some hooch!

I have a confession to make. One of the tool tubes on my bike isn't really for holding tools.

Douche waffle, I like that. I have been alternating between douche nugget and douche cannon lately...

"Bike stays outside"... I think not!

Instead of the bike going into the "garage" I see a lot of people using it for a kitchen.

Holiday Inn has real nice camp sites with hot and cold water, flush toilets, showers and continental breakfast. And your bike rides much better unloaded. I'am soft :)

I do the motel camping too, but a night at a decent motel costs the same as a week in a campground with full facilities. I am cheap :)
