So Idle was set at ~1.4rpm which seemed to low so I adjusted it this morning but went to far ~3+rpm. Felt like I had cruise control. So what's the correct setting I should be aiming for?

3,000 RPM is way too high for an idle speed.
Idle on the 550 should be set to ~1500 RPM (per Fitz to reduce primary chain slap).
    Are the carbs in synch?

    Cool thanks!
I've only bench synced the carbs thus far. I'm hoping to sync them in the next few days (supposed to be rainy for about the next week). I have some other stuff to do at the same time, change exhaust gaskets, oil change, etc.

if you had the left side cover the tag inside would state 1200 rpm. But as stated by K-moe quoting bigfitz 1500 rpm is much better

The 550 also has a hydraulic primary chain adjuster. They are supposed to idle at 1200 RPM, but the chain adjuster can be a bit slack at that speed.

Left sidecover, check. I didn't even think to look there ha. I'll adjust it when I get out of work.

    nice 81
I think a nice touch would be a chrome chain guard if it fits from a maxim to go with the chrome front fender.
I am going to check out this swap on my 82 seca with my maxim chain guard

Thanks! And I agree chrome chainguard would look nice.

And I bought this last fall, 6300 miles on the odometer, $950. I've only put about 200 miles on it since then but i'm riding it more and more now that the weather is finally nice.
