1st question: I have a 1984 FJ600 that I am adapting the turbo unit from an XJ650 onto. In order to finish the wiring, I've switched the CDI box and need to know what the pink wire coming from the CDI box of the 650 is for. The schematic I have indicates it is a ground, but I have my doubts about that.

Does anybody have any idea what this wire connects to?

2nd question" The Detonation magnet for the 650 is located between 2 cylinders. Would somebody have a picture of how this is mounted as I will need to replicate it on the 600 engine.

    Thanks,
    Chris

The wiring diagram I have on the xjcd shows no pink wire.

The knock sensor is mounted between #2 and #3 cylinders on the exhaust side, and from what I can tell it's threaded into the head.

My wiring diagram (for the 650 Turbo) doesn't either. But it does show one wire coming from the CDI without a colour label.

Does anybody with a 650 Turbo know what this pink wire (coming from the CDI box) connects to?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I have the same question. Putting a basket case Seca Turbo together and couldn't find a wire to connect the pink female wire to.

The detonation "microphone" (not magnet) is threaded into the head. Unfortunately, I don't have any pics of the front of the engine with it removed, and just installed the exhaust and oil cooler in front of it.

If no one give you an answer to the pink wire by this weekend, I should have one. I just ran my harness and will be plugging all the components in soon.

Actually looking into it, I didn't have a label for the pink wire out of the TCI box. I'm starting to think it doesn't connect to anything. This is definitely a question for someone that has a turbo on the road. There is another bullet-ed connector coming from the TCI, and it's labelled on the wiring diagram, just not with the other two connectors. Follow it and you'll get the label.

Also, as for the 650 turbo TCI in the FJ 600...how similar are they? Are their ignition curves going to be similar? What are you using to transplant? Entire intake and exhaust? What about the lower compression ratio and hardened internal components?

I believe that pink wire is to perform some type of troubleshooting, similar to the empty bullet connector coming off the fuel pump relay by the headlight....I think you ground the wire to run the pump....not positive though on the exact purpose of that pink TCI connector

I know this is ages ago but did anyone ever look and see if the pink wire is grounded? I have a turbo (which isn't a turbo anymore) and it was given to me without wiring ... the wiring diagram for CDI/TCI shows a wire to earth but doesn't give a colour... is this the pink wire? Don't want to blow the TCI up . Thank you for your time :)

I've always thought the pink wire was just an auxiliary power source for accessories......

    Maybe I'm wrong ....

Ooops, overlooked the TCI part..............although horn wires ARE pink (really, the only pink wires on these bikes)............I looked at one of our 1983 Turbo bikes and sure enough, it has a little pink wire just like yours, but it's not connected to anything, and there are no other wires in the vicinity for it to plug into............still a mystery!

I'd bet that it's a testing feed of some sort.

I wonder if the pink wire could be used to ground the signal to the coils. You could always test for continuity between that and the coil wire (although unplugging the TCI when compression testing is much easier)

The extra plug off of the fuel pump relay bypasses the relay and will run the fuel pump without the bike running. An easier way to do this is to put the bike in 1st gear with the side stand down. The engine won't turn over because of the safety switch, but the fuel pump will run when you press the starter button.
