bought this bike yesterday from spokes81.... there is no manual with the bike but we are trying to order the XJCDv4.x

This model has the rectangular RPM, speed cluster with communication info lights down the center

    Q's:
    1. is the center communications system replaceable - these are almost impossible to read
    2. Red flashing warning light goes on after starting & stays on - what is this for? (I notice the oil is low in the visual window at engine base - I asume it should be reading 1/2 full??)
    3. color is wine - are side panels / battery cover still replaceable?
    4. exhaust has some rust / holes, not nasty but... are they still replaceable?
    5. How do I know if this bike is just a XJ750 or XJ 750 R

Any other common things I should be lookiing for - bike was parked for a year inside - 5997KM on bike

Not sure if it's replaceable without swapping out the entire instrument cluster, but from top to bottom, the indicators read:

    STND - Kickstand down
    BRK - Brake fluid level
    OIL - Oil level
    BATT - Low battery voltage
    HEAD - Headlight bulb bad
    TAIL - Taillight bulb bad
    FUEL - Low fuel level

See which of the above is lit.

Is it a Seca or a Maxim? Seca has the R designation. Maxim would have an H to denote the 81 model year.

The LCD portion is replaceable, just hard to find, the same with the side covers and the exhaust. Keep an eye on ebay for used parts.

You will need to know which model you have to locate the correct side covers.

If you submit the first portion (5 digits) of your serial number we could tell you what model you have or if you have your registration it may already tell you.

Okay you caught me, I don't read the titles.... was looking for a signature tag....

Yeshua, still can't find any reference to a 15J

Depending on the market they were released in here's the info from the xjcd serial number listing:
    In 1981 the 750's were tagged 5G2, 5G8, 5G9, 5H2
    In 1982 the 750's were tagged 5N1, 11M, 15R, 15T, 5G3, 5H2, 5N1

    At speeds 3 gear 4000, 4 - 3500, 5 - 3000.
What does it mean? Previously, this was not.

Yes the Atari is replaceable .. has to replace mine. The low oil level sensor needs removed ( will need to do it at oil change IE oil will need drained) and cleaned sludge causes this to illuminate the light .

and replaced with other style if you remove the atari package . with atari and its computer the oil sensor is on when full shutting the light off.
on other bikes sensor is on when low turning on oil light.
also check to see if battery level sensor is still being used this can cause a warning light

    this is an old thread

Look at the LCD display. Which section has an error?
If it's happening when you shift I would guess that either your oil level is low, or your fuel level is low.

If display is dim, Remove Atari carefully dis assemble face plate ..there is a copper strip take a pencil eraser and clean the strip , put back together and plug back in see if it lights up if nothing displays , obtain another off eBay . My local Yamaha dealer sold these bikes new, he related this to me .

Take the gauge apart and take plastic cover off of the Atari. Peel off the old film that is on top of the lcd display, and replace it with a piece of polarize film. Make sure it is in the right orientation or you will have a black background whit light color letters, instead a light back ground wit black letters. A good source of polarize film,,,, those polarize 3d glasses, old lcd computer monitors both free-ish. Or go to a camera store and get you some.

A cool trick is to take off the polarize film, and wear polarize glasses, then only you can see the display. Works on computer monitors too, gives you the illusion that the screen is clear to every one, but you can see what is on the monitor whith polarized glasses.

And it must be a Seca, or xj750r
The maxim came out in 82 and 83 and I don't think it had the Atari instrument and warning cluster.

Thank you so much! I learned from the former owner. He reworked the panel. Now, this lamp indicates speeding. He thought it burns, it turns out there was no contact. Now to work.
    I xj750 81 years.
    Thanks for help!
