Its nice to see someone trying something new and not saying to hell with it when others say it cant be done. Ive had my xj650 for 6yrs now and i have never but never benn left wanting for low end torque. Especially considering its a 500lb bike.... In comparison id say it nearly rivals some of the bigger bore dualsports in torque in any gear. Yeah its a bit unweildy for fast paced offroading but with the right mods and practice ill bet it could do quite well. Hell suzukis vstrom is technically a dualsport/adventure bike and it looks more like a rocket than anything meant for dirt. Look at it this way at the local hillclimbs ive seen everything from kawasaki triple 2strokes to gxsr engines on extended swing arm dirtbike frames and they do really well on part because they have longer taller gearing but have the torque to use it as well. Ive been heavily debating turning my maxim into an adventure bike but the stopping point was always the shaft drive. Figuring out how to extend it to get clearence without causing it bind at full droop. If anyone has ideas on that that dont require a machine shop let me know lol

Yep. The BMW R1100GS weighs 40 pounds more, and it took Obi-Wan and his acting-friend around the world, via many places were there never have been any roads.
