If you had the money to buy brand new, what would you buy?

With there being so many options out there for new or near new bikes... What would you buy?

I'm thinking of borrowing some money and getting something new so I can take my time with an XJ900 restoration.

Any of the iterations of the latest Yamaha 900cc triple. It may be the best value in motorcycling there has been in at least 20 years. Of them, the FJ-09 would be my pick. I'd also consider the Honda CB1100, and their NC700X.

Moto Guzzi V7 - no question. I hadn't heard of it until recently and was just browsing some local used ads for it today.

If I bought new, I think the V7 would be my ride of choice. Used, I might actually do within the next year or so - saving my pennies.

I'm rethinking this. $10,000 buys a lot of gas, campground fees, and time off. To heck with a new bike!

Was it that money was not a limiting factor.... Motus. Right on the hairy 3 way edge of wretched excess vs thoroughly wonderful vs sensibly useful. It appears to have all those conflicting qualities.

The only conflicting quality Motus has for me is that it already comes with all of the cool things I'd add to a new bike. Where's the fun in that ;)

What do you guys think about an "83" kawasaki kz1100 shaft compared to an"82" yamaha xj1100
for touring economy, availability of parts, easy to work on, performance etc.

You're not kidding, $30k+ for a bike? They look cool though, would love to hear one. There's a dealer not too far, wonder if you can demo ride :D

30K for a bike that comes with every top-end custom accessory a person would put on it anyway. In its category the Motus is as much of, if not more, a value as the new Yamaha triples are.

They have been very generous with demo rides, and have hosted several extended demos with the owners (none of which I've been able to go to). They don't even seem to care if you can buy or not.

Alive, since you are in Qld, there is no doubt, it has to be an XJR1200. If you want to try something different, ex cop FJs can be bought for about $8,000.

I've only ridden the 82 XJ750 Maxim, so I have zero experience with other bikes. However, I recently looked at several sport touring bikes, all with EFI, such as the Honda ST1300 and Yamaha FJR1300. I would keep the Maxim, but would love to add one of these down the road. Years down the road.

I have grown up during the modern bike era before disc brakes and big motors
1970 cb750 4 cyl , heavy but smooth , poor brakes and rubber frames. Beginning of the end for British bikes.

1978 Yamaha xs650 special beginning of showroom choppers.

1978 Yamaha steps up its game XS 1100
Macho Maroon is the official colour.First sub 12 sec stock bike.it has freight train torque ( got mine new April 1978) 3 weeks later I was working selling bikes at the dealer I got it from!

1979 super bike wars , monster motors
Better brakes slightly better frames and tires and forks that are too skinny.

1981 September early release of xj650r Seca ( silver, no yics, oil cooler) in Canada . First euro style sport bike( got the first one in Vancouver . (Was off the boat on Monday night , on the road Tuesday noon) one of the only bikes you couldn't out drive the headlight!

1983 750 interceptor water cooled ,big brakes much better frames and the 16" front wheel ( the stoppy was invented)

1982-84 Turbo race cx500,xj650, kz750, xn85. how complicated can we build it! And how fast will it blow up!

1985 gsxr 750 race ready street bike along with fz750

1985 hp war continues Vmax showroom drag bike ,Honda pulls out 1100 Magna , Tomahawk missile with wheels

1987 cbr600 17" wheels. Easy to ride and other than bad cam chain tensioner was a great engine

Skip to 1997 gsxr750 and a bike so light it felt like a 500cc bike.wow is it stupid fast and handle and stop and wheelie and .....crash claims jumped about 30%

    2016 factory ready everything !

I would have a hard time picking a bike. I like 4 cylinders rather than 2 thumpers, I don't like crotch rockets or the "retro" cruiser look.

I like the "street bike" look of the mid 80's XJ's.
There is a reason I've kept my XJ550 all these years.

I like the Honda Rebel look, just a bit too small. The Triumph Bonnevilles look nice, and might be considered.

you need 8 bikes the eighth bike being a parts/wash bike you ride it to the store to pick up parts and while your 7 daily rides are drying or while your waiting for them to be washed

Ducati singles are loads of fun, I've owned a few pasta bikes, had a 97 monster 750 dark, a mid 70's 750 sport, and a tiny little 250cc "Bastard trail bike" scrambler somebody had witchcrafted together...
I got em cheap too, Less that 1200 for the 250 and the monster. The 750 sport I paid around 3K for, however it needed a bit of TLC before i drove it....Like a total tear down...*shudders*

    Old Bike?

    BSA
    Norton
    Triumph
just about any 2 stroke enduros (My heart longs for an old ts400 apache, it was so fun leaving oil slicks and blown ear drums everywhere behind me)

    Brand new bike?

    Ducati Scrambler, hands down
Bimota Tesi 3d(2008) or the Delirio
    Husqvarna Nuda 900R
    KTM Super duke
    Ural Gear Up Sahara LE
    BMW S1000RR

    In that order

Because if money is no limiting factor...I'll take em all.

I did just this a few years ago, not new but new for me 07 Wee Strom.
It's a good bike but it seems I like the 4 cylinder power delivery in comparison to the V twin.
So I'm looking again.........I suspect I'm going to say that a lot before I give it away.
In the meantime the Strom takes me away every now and then loaded to the gills, wife and I for day trips yada yada can't fault it really.

The Honda ST1300 would ne a real temptation, or the naked, black version of the Honda Goldwing (1800 cc).
