What, if any, options do I have for putting some sort of aftermarket short, clear windshield on my 1981 Seca 750? This is not for the factory fairing but an aftermarket windshield kit. Preferably something that would look good over the rectangular headlight.

    Thank you guys in advance...

There are several options, all require removing the foam covers from the bars, or cutting them to fit the windscreen brackets to the bars, or replacing the bars with soemthing more comfortable.

I have a Slip Streamer Spitfire with a shop-made extension (the only way I could eliminate helmet buffeting when riding into a headwind; pics in my gallery). There are several other aftermarket options. Hit Amazon or Ebay and search for motorcycle windscreen so you can window shop.

I ran a Hell Fire from Slip Streamer on my Seca. I had changed out the stock bars for drags with 3" risers. My son went back to the stock bars sans covers and the Spit Fire screen when I gave him the Seca. I now have a Spit Fire on my Maxim with the square bar adapters. I'd be willing to bet you could use the square bar adapters on the Seca and keep the bar covers. Both the Seca and the Maxim have the same mirrors.

The bar covers are urathane foam. Square adapters will just crush the foam and make the windscreen flop around.

Oh nevemind, you're talking about the adapters the fit under the mirror stalks.

Slip Streamer website has a lot of options, and a great spreadsheet showing compatibility with vintage Yamaha and other brand bikes.

I've had a windshield similar to the original Slip Streamer (http://slipstreamer.com/motorcycle/slipstreamer-the-original/) that I bought with the Maxim new in 1985. I take it off in really hot weather, and use it in spring/fall and for extended road trips. Mine is some generic brand with no markings. It attaches like the one I referenced except the lower brackets attach to the headlight side bolts rather than fork tubes.

I like it because it keeps bugs off, makes highway driving more comfortable, is very stable at high speeds (it feels more stable with it on than without it), and keep my helmet from buffeting.
The cons are that you get hotter on a hot day, especially driving around town. I also notice more "engine" smell on my clothes as the wind tends to go below the windshield, over the motor and up to the body, also making it hotter.

It only takes about 5 minutes to remove or put on, as I keep the lower brackets attached to the bike all the time.

Ahhh.... hotter on a hot day can be solved (it helps reduce buffeting too).

I have one on my windscreen, dead center about 3" up from the bottom of the screen.
Easy to find on Ebay or Amazon.

Any options as far as not damaging the foam handlebar pads?

The adapters from Slip Streamer for square bars mount between the mirror stems and the switchgear, so the bars are not part of the equation. Another option is to swap bars for something more comfortable. The stock bars are a bit narrow for American shoulder widths.
As mentioned there are windscreens that mount to the headlight ears, or to the forks, instead of the bars. I can't give a name of specific windscreen that does that though.

The fairing mounts to all years of 750 Seca, and did not come out until '82 anyway.

Good to know. I've never seen an '81 with the sport fairing.

I bought the square bar adapters, they fit perfectly in my mirror mounts. Now I'll see if I can mount a windshield
