HOW TO: Clean the Enrichment Circuit Well

If you are losing a lot of time on Fuel Bowl with clogged Enrichment Well Metering Jets ...
Substitute another Fuel Bowl.
-Or-
Drill-out the Jets.

Order replacement Twist Drills from a Metric Supplier
0.35 >38, 40, 45, 50, 52, 58, 60, 65, 70
Ask for:
"Number 70 through Number 80"

Armed with those Drills ... Hit a Hardware Store and get a "Dremel Keyless Chuck"

Use the Keyless Chuck to give you a "Grip" on the small Drill Bits and probe the Fuel Bowl Well with a Twist Drill.

 

I also carry the correct size starter jet clean-out drill bit in an extra-long length, so no need for the pin vise, just a pair of plier will do!

 

so... couldnt i just use a small guage unfolded paper clip to clean it out?

 

Don't waste time fooling-around with Fuel Bowl Enrichment Circuit & Well Metering Jets and orifices.
Don't lose time.
Don't get frustrated.

Get a Twist Drill that fits the Port and use the Twist Drill to OPEN the Passages.

Use the Twist Drill as a Hand Tool and probe the orifices for foreign matter and clear them out for spraying.

If you spend more than two minutes working on an obstruction.
Drill it.
Before you get the drill, ... "Tape-off" the bit.
Wrap the Bit with Masking Tape to its "SAFE Depth"
Chuck it up.
Drill-out the Passage Intersection.

Keep-on trucking.
Don't fool-around with the Fuel Bowl if its clogged.
Attack it. Get the Passage open. Don't mess with it!

Trying to clean the idle choke curcit on a HITACHI CARB # 33. Been threw it a few times the bodys are clean I ( of course ) thought I had it clean but the bowl is solid in the choke curcit. Used a torch cleaning set ultra sonic cleaned for 4 days pin drills nothing is getting the largs slug of crap out, it will not air check or move any cleaner threw it buy new bowls? and where can I get them I have another set of bowls here but they are going to another member and dont want to give him crap parts on a set of carbs mine are low low milage long time sitting

 

Fourth time still not the charm put fuel in plug holes runs for few seconds then dies choke curcit clean jets clean can't get this time around I got alot of new parts to sell

 

So glad I read through this, thought I had done a good job of cleaning my carbs but completely overlooked the enrichment well, 3 out of 4 are clogged! That' embarrassing given the number of times these carbs have been off. Note to self, read the bloody instructions FIRST once in a while!

 

Just a suggestion on what to use to get those stubborn clogs unclogged, a 6 in. length of guitar string in a drill works perfectly. it will not harm the carb but it will go throught pretty much anything that is clogging the passages.

Unfortuantely not, unless the Wayback Machine captured the pics. If you read the description with the float bowls in-hand it'll become obvious what to do.

 

I got it... Need to order a drill bit... the needle didn't work

 

Here I go digging up another ancient thread. For good reason tho. I just happen to be using the hyperdermic needle method yesterday but mine isn't needle sharp; it has a blunt end and works just fine when inserted into the passage. These are easy to procure since people (like me) use them to refill the ink in their inkjet printers. The needle can also force air into the passage too.
