3D Scanning hard (impossible) to find parts.

I recently found a rear seat fairing for my 650 Turbo Seca, which has no broken tabs and/or cracks, and was a bit spendy. I've spent awhile looking for one, and the only ones I've been able to track down are never in solid shape.

Has anyone gone so far as to have very hard-to-find parts 3D scanned so in the future the part could be 3D printed if need be? I'd love to actually do so with fairing or other parts that will eventually be impossible to find. It would be nice to have access to the schematic when the printing prices are a bit more affordable down the road.

 

I had my painter make up some tabs for mine and after sanding and painting wouldn't know it was fixed. For now probably a cheaper option I would think. BUT talk to me about that bloody 650 badge that sits in the middle of the handlebar cover and I'm all ears!!!!

 

I've yet to see any 3D-printed stuff that it smooth enough for me to consider buying it

 

in another thread this was discused. not a cheap way to go .
one would need a large 3d printer$$, and YAMAHA would likely want to be compensated for any parts being sold to the public.

Seca 550 left side cover would be nice they run 150 to 200 $$ used or nos. but are to big to make in a 3d printer that
i could afford.

 

Anyone thought about making plaster molds and cast resin? Its cheaper and feasible.

 

I have looked into casting there is a pink flexable mold used by hobbiests and many different resins to be used.
the cost for 1 part molding can be pricey
