How rare are turbo parts?

So I came across a score on CL yesterday. Dude was trying to clear out some junk, and he had 3 bins of random '82 650 turbo parts. Took all three bins for a steal. He also has the motor (which is frozen) and the frame (which is cut up a little) that he said I could come back for. I was in a Kia Spectra, so trunk space was limited.

I've looked around a bit on eBay, but I don't really get a feel for what the parts are worth.

I was thinking about cleaning some up and either reselling, or perhaps sitting on for a while in case I come across a cheap whole bike for sale someday.

    Questions, comments, concerns?

Not a lot - plenty of parts. The only bits worth anything are the parts unique to the bike. Everything else has commonality on other models. The engine is a boat anchor so don't bother and the frame not much use either except as an ornament.

Well, there are some parts I got that are unique to the bike, like the turbo itself, air box, air intake and such...

nice haul there. Store it if you have the space. Go back for the engine so you get the special oil pump and knock sensor.

I also have the carbs, headers and collector, front forks, tank, rear shocks and wiring harness. I was stoked to see the oil cooler, but then I read reflektor's thread in tech chat, and it looks like it will be a little work to fit on my 750 Seca.

You can sell the everything piecemeal to someone who wants to turbo his Maxim :D. Start with the Turbo and work your way back to the carbs!

There's also an oil check valve in the engine that's worth getting. Heck take the whole engine, does it have a lot of miles? Why is it siezed?

If you got the Yamaha emblem from the handle bars, there is another member that has been searching for one. I tried to find his thread but my search skills are weak today.

Oh I forgot about the emblems. I was actually thinking about putting some on my fairings....Do you have the fairings?

I saw that thread too, but there were no body parts. Just some rear inner fenders and broken tail light housings. He said his buddy literally found it on the side of a mountain on his property.

I haven't been able to look at the engine yet, so I don't know why it's seized. I planned on dissecting and cleaning it just for practice.

That's pretty odd. Perhaps that's what happens if you forget to roll off the throttle w/ a turbo (bike embeds into a mountain).

Get everything you can from it. Use what you need, sell what you don't.

The story of finding it on the side of a mountain seems a bit sketchy. Perhaps it would be wise to avoid buying anything with a serial number...

Well, it is Albuquerque after all... Just about everything you come across is sketchy. APD is too busy shooting people first and asking questions later to bother with a rusty old bike.
