Just bought an XJ 1100 in good running condition for 500 bucks. Have tooled around on it some and then my ignitor box died. Need advice from someone who can tell if an XS 1100 ignitor box will interchange with my XJ...

    Your TCI is a.
    TID14-10, 10M-10
Most years of XS1100 used the same TCI. Match the TCI numbers up and you're golden.

Thank you...you just saved me some money. I almost ordered one from eBay off an XS for less money than the TID14-10 ,10M-10. Was hoping it would interchange because the blade receptors were the same. Glad I asked first. Again
    ..thanks for the help.

Should be the same...the xj1100 is the same thing as an xs1100...... Except basically one is an XS style bike, and the other is an Xj style bike.

There is one year of XS1100 that has a vacuum ignition advance built into the TCI. Fortunately it has a different ID Number on it.

I'm not sure that an XS1100 igniter will work but it could do. I'm running an XS1100 with an XJ1100 igniter and pick ups so I know that works.
I bought a so-called XJ1100 igniter from Andreas Weiss, he advertises on here sometimes as well as www.xs11.com , but when it arrived it was from an XJ650 Turbo, and it does work but I wouldn't like to try it over a long period.
I can't try to see if the XS1100 igniter will work with the XJ1100 set up at the moment as i'm doing some work on the bike and it's taken apart. I'd be interested to see Gary's results, so keep us posted.

    I was thinking that it's '81.
It has a pigail, so it'll be easy to spot.

In doing more reading, bit looks like all the xs1100's have an advance....some vacuum-electrical, some vacuum -mechanical......so I'm out of familiar territory.......

XJs have an advance too. It's built into the TCI circuitry.
    But you knew that already.

The XS advance is a bit more old-school automotive though.
I keep forgetting more than I learn.....
