Simplified wiring harness?

    I am rapping up a project 81 650 and I realize that the previous owner before me decided to do a hack job on the wiring. So, I looked at repairing it but I think it would just be best to get a whole new harness. Any suggestions on how to go about this?

    One of the members here has a schematic for a simplified wiring harness, but I can't remember who.

    Do a forum search for "simplified basic wiring harness"

    Shouldn't be too long before you find it.

    I've been trying to wire in an XJ1100 ignition system to one of my XS1100's, but i'm having trouble wiring in the Boost sensor, which is the same item as on the XJ650 Turbo.
    Looking at that diagram above and also when using the search button, it shows no sign of the boost sensor.
    So is it possible to leave it out? Sorry that's a bit mis-leading, i've already left it out on my XS but find it a struggle to get from 75mph to 90, and then virtually impossible to go over a ton, without using the boost unit.
    So an electronics expert mate of mine on the XS forum told me how to wire it all in but i don't get a spark at the plug, but all the other electrics work.
    The XJ11 10M TCI is a plug and play of sorts with the XJ pick up coils in place of the stock XS items.
    So where am i going wrong and is there an actual way to do it or should i just forget it?

    The boost unit is just a vacuum sensor and is used for changing the advance curve.
    If you were going to leave it off, to get normal full throttle power you will need to substitute a signal that simulates full load.

    Looking at the manual you would need to use around a 2 volt signal.

    Your electronics friend may be able to make up a voltage divider circuit to achieve that.

    So then, if I'm looking at this right, it is possible to separate the other three circuits from the main circuit without any detrimental effects? Thereby allowing me to use a lower amperage fuse than 30 for the main circuit?

    Thank you for adding that diagram! I had copied the original wiring from the Service manual and I was going through making changes to try to limit what is needed.

    I am back in the spirit of working on my XJ750,

    (I had it given to me back in 2010, I was able to get it running during the summer but I did not have time to take a motorcycle class so i just let it sit over the winter in the shop.
    When i tried to start it during spring 2011 it wouldn't start, i spent about a month rebuilding the carbs replacing everything and I just couldn't get it to run so i pushed it into the corner and left it. )

    I took a Rider safety course the middle of last year and acquired my license, Once i had my license I went and purchased a 2008 Kawasaki Vulcan900 at my local dealership and I have been riding that as much as i can since.

    That bike re-kindled my passion for motorcycles.

    Now i have plans to slim down my XJ to the bare bones and get it running again. This forum will give me a great start on getting the wiring worked out.

    Yes the main fuse is seperate, run a hot from on side of the key to feed, say the left side of the fuses, then the right side of the fuse goes to what ever you are powering

    I have recently bought my first motorcycle. I bought a 1985 Yamaha Maxim x. That is all I know about it. How do I figure out everything I can about this bike and possibly get my hands on a owners manual and a repair manual. Thanks in advance.

    Even by modern standards it's a hot rod.
    The X is a machine that will overwhelm a new rider quite easily.
    Have you taken a rider's safety course?

    Yup... You got a bike that has about 86hp, and has been known to do 0-60 in about 3 seconds, and had 1/4 mi times of about 11.5 seconds at about 115mph

    An XJ1100 is really a restyled XS1100. The wiring is quite a bit different, and this minimal wiring diagram really isn't suitable for it.

    Okay, Thank you! Is there any wiring diagrams for the XJ1100 available? The wiring harness on mine is melted pretty bad. It runs but it needs wiring work done before it causes any major problems.

    So guys, Gals

    I have a 81 xj650, I have the wiring mostly figured out... added LED signals.
    All seemed to be going good till I started it.

    The Diode (in headlamp) got hot and melted. On the simplified wiring diagram they dont show one.

    My question is.... Is this a need componant or or can i leave it out?
    BTW my wiring is pretty much stock

    the diode block is used with the oil level switch and the head light relay
    you can make a diode resistor set up for the oil light , and bypass the head light relay using a switch as shown in the min wiring diagram

    or make your own diode block
