    The pawls came out when i took out the shifter drum star segment. My question is, if you look at the drum start segment, where the pawl arm centers on, they are not completely symetrical throughout the whole thing. The segment has specific parts for different parts of the gear.

    What is the default position that neutral or 1st gear is supposed to be iN?

    I take it the pins came out and you don't know which hole gets the long one?

    On the star wheel at the back of the segment there is one trough that is different - it's not as deep as the others and is closer to the trough on either side. That is where the detent arm rests when the drum is in the neutral position.

    Also there is one dowel that is longer than others. Should this be the first dowel and the other dowels are flushed inside? This long dowel is the one that interfaces with the shifter drum. Should it be like:

    l * * *
    l l l l

    Or

    * l * *
    l l l l

    Should the longest dowel be the first one in the star segment?

    Let me know if this helps, click on the picture to play the video.

    If you have more questions we could possibly do a Webex meeting.

    I don't know and I expect anyone else who did didn't bother to write it down either. I've never seen a manual or parts fiche that adequately describes which one it is.

    What I end up doing (EVERY DAMN TIME) is getting the drum into the neutral position, lining up the shift sector and figuring out which hole gets the long pin. Then I run the shifter through the motions to make sure I still didn't screw up.

    OMG! you're awesome. I thought all was lost, saw your post, watched the video and Voila! Missing shift pin. That's why I had no 4th or 5th gear. It couldn't reach them because there was no pin to rotate the drum. Someone had been inside before me and lost a pin!

    I'm having the same issue and the video is no longer available. Wondering if the poster or anyone can re upload it.
