My ignition coils have got out a while ago, now finding time to start working on the bike again.
Ive been searching for ignition coils but not having to good of luck on finding brand new ones. Does anyone have any suggestions on which coils i should run? and also ones that won't burn a hole in my wallet. This will be my first time installing coils when i get these so if anyone has any helpful advice that would be great!
    Thanks!

Try finding a set of CB750 Honda Coils , they mount to stock location you just have to flip them over. They are Hitachi coils ( same manufacture used by Yamaha) and have removable plug wires. I paid 25.00$ for the pair my bike runs great with them

Sweet thanks man, would the plug wires from my coils now work with those or would I need anew set of those? Sorry it's my first time doing this so not sure if coils will come with those or not ?

And the Honda coils fit under the tank with no issues?

The Honda could are a lesser expensive upgrade to the factory Yamaha coils, in that the wires can be replaced without purchasing new coils or major surgery.

And, if my research is correct, they are 2.5 ohms, just like ours .

Correct on all counts. Jetfixer was the one who first used the CB750 coils.

Already sourced out a pair of coils. Actually, a complete kit. One that includes two coils, 6 feet of wire, two NGK straight boots and two 120° boots. All for $68.

    Thanks all...

Installed the CB coils today. Easy install. As soon as Photobucket starts working, I will submit pics.

Initial thoughts: no perceived performance gains. Decent spark. Definitely a lesser expensive replacement to stock XJ coils.

As expected. Spark alone won't change how an engine performs, unless the spark is insufficient to begin with.

you may want to flip those quick disconnects on the left side coil . the wire looks like it will get pinched under the tank mount

Not at all. They are behind the rubber. (Inboard of the tank mount)

I have never seen the mounting system of a 550's tank. However, there is about half an inch clearance between the rubber mount and the frame where the wires of the coils have been relocated to by this modification. And on my 650, the "U" shaped receiver of the tank does not protrude inboard past the lip of the rubber isolators.

However, like you stated, time will tell.

That's how my auxiliary light wiring is routed. There's plenty of room, and no chafing.

I have no interference with wire rubbing on tank.

Does anyone know if the cb plug wires screw in to the plugs? Or how they hook up?

I run 82 Honda CB750 coils on my XJ750 Seca these are a direct swap in mounts just like stock coils and have replaceable plug wires. Cycle Recycle Part 2 has them new for like 39$ each and they also sell the plug wires and caps as well. These coils work great and been using them for 3 yeas with no problems.

Hey I hooked mine up but I'm not getting any fire did you use the same wire hookups as the originals? And when getting more plug wires do I order them for the 82 coils?
