When you find one compromised electrical connector, you can be sure to find more.

...So lets say your right on the money Stumplifter, I still had about a quarter tank of gas but each float bowl was about 1/5 full of gas, whats my issue?

I have an abnormally long fuel line that goes tank> hose, small cone filter, hose, valve, hose, larger filter (the one I regularly see on bikes) hose> Carbs
could I have had an air bubble in the fuel line giving some back pressure?

(edit-if you saw the petcock question I solved my problem)

there is a petcock rebuild kit chacal sells them or try ebay
K&L Fuel Petcock Repair Kit Shutoff Valve Yamaha XJ550 XJ650 XJ750 Maxim Seca

    how to rebuild it

is the fuel flowing with out vacuum?
if it is start by capping the vacuum hose port on petcock and the port on the intake manifold. you could be sucking gas directly from petcock to intake manifold
you can get a fuel lock if air bubbles are in the hose I use a translucent hose so i can see bubbles setting petcock tp prime allows the air bubble to flow back into the tank

i would remove the small cone filter, is it a sintered brass filter? xj does not like paper filters
shorten the fuel line put more gas in the tank. make sure all connections are clamped

Are those paper filters? They may not be allowing enough fuel. There are ones with brass filtering material.

I put the wave washer on the wrong side of the lever, is what happened, now there are no issues with my petcocks function

The small cone filter looks like foam to me, but I imagine that wouldn't do so well living in gas, the second and larger filter is paper, looks like a miniature version of the fram oil filter for the xjs

I cut a few inches off the current fuel line, put the wave washer in the correct positioning on the petcock, filled the tank all the way and primed the carbs, she started right up and idled perfectly with a little adjusting

I'll switch the fuel filters when I have a little extra $$, same time I plan on swapping the fuses for blade fuses and getting a new rear tyre and any other little things I find out I should do

I'm thinking my issue was an air bubble in my fuel line and once the gas in the tank got low enough it didn't have enough pressure (weight) to push past the air bubble leaving gas in the tank and my carbs nearly dry, does anybody else have any other ideas what my problem may have been in order to avoid this issue again?

It's the filters. You only need the one after the petcock, and it needs to have a sintered brass filter element. You should be able to get one locally for under $4.00. If you can't find them locally Chacal has them in stock.

I looked it up to see what that looks like and that's my smaller cone filter, the first one on the fuel line where I said it look like possibly foam but I knew it couldn't be foam

Be aware; as nice as those filters are they do get britle fairly quickly. Annual replacement is recommended. There are similar filters sold on E-bay that have an aluminum housing, which I prefer. The aluminum ones do take about a month to arrive though.

I just thought i'd let you guys know I took my bike from the center of Kansas down to New Orleans at the beginning of the month, I put nearly 2000 miles on her in 7 days and we hit 6 states, sleeping in the woods on the road and girls were all over me and the bike when I showed up to see my friends in NOLA.

I left in 25 degree weather, the next day was in the mid 30s, the next morning was in the 40's with a drizzle that turned into heavy rain, I rode through that into 60's and sunny skies for the last 4 hours of the 18 hour trip there lol, the ride back was much nicer and enjoyable

    It was awesome!

She is making a little more noise now than when I left out of the left side, I haven't looked into it since I got home though

So this may be a silly question but its about my tire size..

I measured my rear rim at 17" but from what I can tell stock maxim rear rims are 16"

I'm looking for the exact size of my rear tire but I cant find it other than the specific Dunlop model number and when I look that up and try to find the exact size of the tire so I can compare with other tires I have no luck figuring out the sizes in a way I understand aka in a way to compare to other tires

I thought MC tires were supposed to have dimensions on them like 100/90-19 which is my front tires
    my rear only has Dunlop491 MT90B16 M/C 74H

So I think (MT) is Motorcycle Tire (90) is my tires depth maybe? Or the ratio to the width of the tire? but the depth measured at exactly 90mm (B) I have no idea but I assume its related to (16) which I am assuming is my rim size and (74H) is load speed index which I don't understand yet how to interpret

Where is the 21 coming from for my front tire? If it says 19 on it

When I'm reading overall diameter and is says 25.70 what measurement is that in?

If MT90 = 130/90 why do you say my rear is 120/90
and if B is for bias ply and it separates aspect ratio and rim size wouldn't my rim size be 16"?
Where is the 18" coming from for my rear?
