Hey all, I finally have a garage and can work on my bike once again! (It's been sitting for over a year)

Any help in explaining why fuel may be spitting out the air intake?

The slides move freely, the diaphragms don't appear to have any tears.

That's kinda all I know at the moment. I'll start from this point but have a feeling I'm gonna need a lot of help.

The bike is mega lumpy, its running on all cylinders however doesn't idle nice at all. In saying that, its running on pods and a pretty minimally baffled exhaust.

Float needles not closing, overflowing into air box, or in your case ,pods. Complete rebuild of carbs needed!

    gotta ask what bike?

sounds like stuck floats or needle valves. need to clean your carbs. Leaking fuel from air ports in the carbs will flow back into the air box and out the drain.
Have you checked your oil level? You may have a flooded crank case too.

    It's an 84 XJ750R

If fuel has made its way there, it'll obviously need a oil drain/filter yeah?

The carbs on my bike say Mikuni but how am I able to check the model of carb?

From what I can see, the RL comes with Hitachi HSC33 series.

Double check the VIN on the engine case. You may have an XJ900RL engine.

I noticed that you have seveal threads that seem to be about the same motorcycle.
Would you mind keeping all of your questions in one thread? That will help us to help you since we can then keep track of what has, and what has not, ben done to the machine.

    EDIT:

I think we covered some of this back in January http://www.xjbikes.com/forums/threads/does-xj750-have-fuel-overflows.78850/#post-493062
Did you not get Hitachi carbs to replace the Mikiunis?

Thanks for the link! I knew we had discussed some probs but not the current.
My bike (same bike) has been sadly sitting since that time. I now have a garage so happy days. Sorry for the excessive post. Does that mean you'd like me to keep all my bike questions in one thread or just when the topic is kinda the same?

At least one Fuel valve sticking open, AND a worn petcock-- AND your crankcase is probably filled with gas in the oil, too. Time for carb service, petcock service, oil and filter change......

And, you probably have the rare xj750rl, which would explain the mikuni's.

Frap, could you also send me a private conversation with serial number (at least the last six digits--I've added an addendum to my 900rk list for the 750rl's

One bike, one thread. It helps keep the forum clean, and makes it easy to keep track of what has and has not been done.

His is an earlier #, BUT yours is a 44X and his is 45T. So they aren't in the same consecutive lists

    Ok, a couple of things----

-I'll have to back up on the carb thing--apparently the 750rl came with Hitachi's, not mikuni's asi was originally thinking

_ I have put together my addendum to the USA- 900rk database, and now have all the 760rl's that I could cross reference. There are 15 on the list now, some are in Canada, others in Australia. The list all includes 44X, 45T, etc......sometime I'll probably separate them, too..........
