    Bike - 1980 XJ650 Maxim.
Question - Can someone with experience (been there done that) definitively say that MAC exhaust systems, part #004-0401(Complete chrome pipe, 4 into 1 megaphone muffler) or part #804-0401 (Black header pipes, 4 into 1 chrome canister muffler) fit my bike without modification and retaining center stand and maintenance point access? MAC says yes, but I found conflicting info (no fit mainly) while researching. For those who have, any installation sticking points noted would be great. I don't want to buy a $400.00 boat anchor.
    Thanks in advance, all

not a 650 but my 2 cents. no instructions, center stand worked , had to tweek the pipes a bit to fit onto the head. about 1/3 the weight of stock.
had to make a bracket to mount muffler the one in the kit was to short. the mount bracket on muffler was way to far back to do stock mounting position .it was located directly under the shock bolt and I have seen some use brackets to mount the muffler to the shock

I now have a stock exhaust to put on the bike. mac 4to1 gave me the time to find one at a good price while letting me ride.

What carb mods, if any, are you using with this exhaust?

One on the bench is going back to stock exhaust and airbox. Owner doesn't want pods and 4-1 that came on it.
Carbs had the full "church" done to it.
Last seca 650 I did was last summer
114 main( Canadian bikes came with 112 stock)
Pilot jet up 1 size from stock can't remember what that was.
Bike had K&N oem style filter

i have a Mac 4-1 on a 750 seca, one of the pipes needs a bit of coaxing (#2 i think) to get into the head, no big deal.
my center stand lives in the garage so...? but i can use it with the pipe on but don't know about riding with it.
didn't like how the megaphone muffler sounded but it fit. it lives with the center stand.
a spin-on filter gets along with the pipes fine.

Thanks Polock, and all others for the feedback/advice. Might see if I can find a video on the pipe's sound, canister vs. megaphone. It's that high rpm howling sound I'm looking for, not a tin can rattle/buzz. Had a 4 into 1 pipe on a different bike back in the day, and loved that howling music - but that bike had more displacement (850 cc's). For this project , carb mixture science is the challenge I look forward to after installing the new pipe. Got to church up the carbs anyway - hard to start hot - throttle shaft seals must be shot.
