I recently had a local shop clean the jets in the carburetors.

The bike now has a very high idle (2800-3000 rpm). I don't see that either of my service manuals addresses the issue. However I notice there is a set screw under the left side of the tank behind the carb.

If I make adjustments to this screw will this address my high idle issue?

How did the shop clean your jets? Did they do a full tear down of the rack and carbs?
Did you take the bike to them or just the rack?
When was the last time th carbs were at Church?
I know not of 750's nor the set screw you speak of . . .
Unless you are referencing the adjustment screw that is inbetween carbs 2 & 3. Yes, that will change your idle, but honestly there could be a lot more going on. Try turning that knob and see if the idle speed changes.

You can try that, but be aware that most shops do not do an adequate job on the carburetors. Or, check these carbs out, now available from Len at XJ4ever. You can see the knurled idle adjustment knob on the back.

Did you get the battery warning squared away?

Yep, battery is taken care of. I think I may have a vacuum leak. I'm going to check that after I try to adjust the setting on the setscrew.

I truly do not now. My intention is to break them down this winter and go through them thoroughly. Church of clean.

I'm sure it was not a thorough cleaning. His price was way too low for that. He said they put it into an ultrasonic cleaner, and I'm wondering if it was just the Jets. I don't know a lot about carburetors, but I have a feeling I'm going to learn. This coming winter I'll pull them off and go completely through them. Church of clean thoroughly. I have another bike to ride, but I really enjoy writing this one.

My bet is that the whole rack was dipped. You now have useless throttle shaft seals. You can't wait until winter to break the rack if that's what happened.

Do not ride it with the high idle. Damage to you, the engine, or both will result.

I'll call and find out. If that's the case Chacal gave me an email to send them to you to get them rebuilt.

I have another bike to ride. So it's not like I will have withdrawals.

He better not have. That would make Hogfiddles angry :p

While I can rebuild carbs, I don't have any time to do so for anyone else for another year or so.

Verbal command. He gave me an email of an individual who can handle the task. I'd do it but my 10 % failure rate has made me risk averse and a procrastinator.

    Hogfiddles is the contact.

Stumplifter, I trailered the bike and took it to them. I purchased the bike two years ago and have been fixing one thing after the other since then. Believe it or not, I bought it from my sister in Tomahawk, WI. She told me it was well maintained. I'm still waiting for her definition on that term.

Even a well maintained machine will have things that need to be addresss if left to sit for a few years, and other things that need done simply because some parts have aged beyond their use-by date (like throtttle shaft seals, float needles, brake lines, etc.).

I worked at the Harley plant on Somo Avenue in Tomahawk two winters ago . . . . Tomahawk is a nice town just 15 minutes north of me.

Kmoe may be right, they probably just dipped the carbs, to get things right you need to go to Church and replace all this old tired rubber bits. Or have Dave do them - rumor has it he knows a thing or two. ;)

    Maintenance is the key.

thanks for the recommendation. I'm going to take it. My sister and her husband live on Lake Nokomis.
