Hey everyone, thought I'd put a post on here to introduce myself and see if there is anyone lurking around here from NZ? Be great to know good sites/wreckers etc that have XJ parts.

Ive recently moved back home from AUS. Great to be back but found out when I went to swap my bike licence I have to wait two years! So, I decided to buy a derego'd bike to pull apart, probably break, fix, restore and hopefully ride out of my garage in two years.

I found a XJ750 that had been sitting in a shed for around 10 years. Apart from the obvious dust and general look of abandonment, it actually looked in pretty good condition. So I gave him $500 and put her on the trailer.

I am just about to put the carbys back together now my kits have arrived, buy a battery and fire her up to see what running condition it's in. If the motor sounds good the complete tear down begins! If it's F*&$ed I'll probably have some parts to sell.

So, hello. I have a feeling you good folk are gonna save me more times than once over the next couple of years!

    Welcome to the camp Tom.
I believe there are a few Kiwi's here and certainly a few Aussie's - not sure if the later will be of any help with wreckers.
XJ4Ever in the upper right hand corner is a trusted parts source . . . no idea what shipping costs would be.

    Hi Tom,
I have just signed up for the same reason, and am in the same boat as you, bought a dereged 82 Xj 650 Seca with a 750 engine in it for $500 that has been sitting under a tarp for some years, I am in Hamilton, and it's nearly impossible to get second hand parts, apart from what's on Trade Me. I have ordered a lot of stuff from Wemoto, haven't let me down yet, I have a few spares if you need, as I am building a Brat, as the previous owner cut the rear frame.

    Hey Matty,

Good to hear from ya! Im just down the road in Tauranga. Actually picked my 750 up from Hamilton at the end of last year. I love the 650 Seca, im actually on the hunt for a tank as I wanted to swap the 750 one. I don't think I'm going to have much luck finding one in NZ but if you see one around let me know!

How chopped is the frame? I'm looking at grinding off the current rear light brackets etc off so I can add on a rear loop to go with a new seat but was unsure about what NZTA would say when I go to register it again. It's a bit of a gamble in terms of what they will fail the bike on.

I haven't heard of Wemoto yet so ill go and have a look now... trade me is pretty empty aye, I've been meaning to go through and ring a whole lot of wreckers and see if theres anyone with some stuff. What sort of spare parts do you have?

    Cheers!

    Hi Tom

I am looking at getting the another two wrecks at the moment, not exactly sure what spares are on them yet but will let you know, I have a set of brand new switches for the left and right bars in polished chrome, they will need to be rewired to suit, factory seat and rear cowl, factory indicators, two sets of handle bars, round tacho, has a broken needle. Factory headlight also.

Mines cut just behind the rear shock mounts, ordered a loop on line, so will just weld it up, as far as VTNZ I will be taking mine through a Low volume cert then through compliance, well that's the plan anyway, there is a wreckers in Wanganui that has some spares, check him out on trade me, Are you after a 750 seca tank or a 650 seca tank?

Have you got a photo of the switches? What style of handle bars are they? Could be keen.

After a 650 Seca tank, so if your looking at a wreck with one on I'm definitely keen to grab it if you don't want it.

    Hey Tom,
I've got a 1982XJ750 that I'm also trying to get running after it was parked up for a bit by the previous owner's uncle.
The anti-dive is a bit crap as parts have been swapped out and hobbled together - did you have any luck getting yours back on the road or did you part it out?

    Cheers,
    Warren (Tauranga)

I just recently purchased a "barn find" (not in the literal sence) XJ750D and the anti dive was still in original condition thankfully and has now been fixed.
I've tried to find some wreckers here in NZ for my own parts but they are too few and far between unfortunately.
I do know there is a XJ650 being wrecked and a few XJ900's and 750's but I can't remember where unfortunately.

TradeMe is pretty much a no go for parts unless you find a Unicorn barn find bike on which I have seen 2 over the last year been bought for parts I'm guessing. One of them being an XJ650 Turbo.

Good luck with the search mate.
