I am trying to remove the main jet from a Hitachi hsc33 off of a 1985 xj700n, this jet doesn't have a slot for a screwdriver to fit in. I think it looks pressed in and has threads on the inside. I have tried making a puller to pull it out but to no avail. Does any one have suggestion's on how to remove?

Welcome , I'm stumped the jet should have a slot ? Pictures might help us to understand , pulling is not good idea the jets are threaded in and if there is no slot someone might have hacked in an incorrect jet.

are you talking about the Main needle JET Size: #3.2mm (the main needle JET is also known as the "power valve" or "emulsion tube"). ?
if you are it pushes up through the top of the carb. you remove carb hat and diaphram/slide setup

see this thread page 9 shows passage

Are you sure that it's not the needle jet? It's threaded for the main jet to thread into. You should be able to screw one of the diaphragm cover screws into it and tap on it gently to remove from it's seat.
EDIT, beat me to it there mate.

You're talking about the needle jet, also called the emulsion tube. The main jet screws into it from the bottom. Your main jet is already removed if you can see the threads on the inside. The tube slides out through the main bore for the slide, not pulled out from the bottom. It is not a press fit. If it is stuck, you will need to carefully drive it out. They do get stuck with varnish, etc.... but when clean will drop neatly into the bore from inside the body. If you damage the threads inside you will need to get a replacement emulsion tube.

    etube.JPG emulsion tube
    main jjet.JPG main jets

you can use a wooden dowel to tap it out large enough to fit the flat surface

spray or pour carb cleaner down main air jet to help clean and loosen gunk up

again page 9 of naked carb pdf will show how thw passages connect

You must be referring to the jets that are on the inlet of the carbs, they are air jets I believe and are pressed in. The only way to remove is to drill them out and replace. Leave them in , there is no reason to remove them.

The air jets at the inlet all have slots for removal. The only pressed-in jet is the enrichment jet in the float bowl.

I agree that the OP is describing the emulsion tube/ needle jet.
OP, it comes out from the top, after the slide has been removed from the carb body.

Yes guys, I see now. I was thinking of Mikuni carbs that have a pressed in air jet on the carb inlet

This bike has been sitting in a unheated garage for the last twenty years. Mice had a field day with it the owner said it was running fine when she parked it. I believe her, she is a old freind it will be interesting to see if jets are in remaining carbs.
