Still looking for an Upper Fork Tube. The only one that will fit are from a 1982 or 1983 XJ750 Maxim. None of the other years or models are the same. Midnight Maxim, or Seca are different.
Only 82-83 XJ750 Maxim will work.

If you know of a good deal on one, please let me know.

    Thank you,
    Chris.

82 tube is different from 83

83 maxim has air valve on top of fork
    . Inner Tube 1 22R-23110-00-00
82 maxim air valve on side
    . Inner Tube 115R-23110-00-00

    which year do you have?

Sorry I didn't put that in the post. I was at the Yamaha Shop when he looked it up. The screen *he had* listed the 82 and 83 the same part number. Looking for 1983.

I usually go to the Honda shop (they work on more Yamaha's then Yamaha here) to get stuff. I went to the Yamaha shop to look up the bikes that fit. No wonder Honda services more Yamaha's.

Are you sure these are the same bike comparisons? So many people are selling "Maxim" forks that are Midnight Maxim. 1983 Maxim and 1983 Midnight Maxim are different forks.

Not doubting you, just that I was at the Yamaha shop and saw on the screen with my own eyes. Could be wrong, that would explain why I've seen 1982 forks with different looking tops.

    Thank you,
    Chris.

The 1983 XJ750 Maxim and the 1983 XJ750 Midnight Maxim use the same upper (inner/chrome) fork tubes..........the lower (outer) tubes are different, but only due to the color difference (the casting is the same). The 1982 XJ750 Maxim inner (chrome) fork tubes are indeed different.

We carry brand new tubes in-stock.

I don't see a side air fork hookup in the photo. Mine is 1983 maxim, comes with a air hookup straight up in the center of the fork (you have to take the handle bars off to add air).

Just verified that the only fork that will work is a 1983 XJ750 Maxim. All other years and models will not work. Just 1983 XJ750 Maxim. Still looking.

    Thank you,
    Chris.

You can swap the entire front if you can't find an upper.

Each link you suppled will not work. They are from a bike that does not have the same fork tube as mine.

    Thank you,

    They are.
And all '83 upper fork tubes are the same.
And Chacal has new upper tubes if he dosen't want to wait on a used one.
But maybe I don't know anything.

Nope, they are not all the same. 83 XJ750 Maxim and Midnight Maxim are not the same. They use different tubes. Don't feel bad, your not the only one to make that mistake.

Thank you for trying to help,

    Chris.

I'm not going by a website, I'm going by Factory Yamaha lists it as not being the same. Could be, but I've ordered other parts and Midnight was different. Yamaha lists this as being different. I watched the guy at Yamaha (4 times now), go to the software, check the numbers, and they where different.

What makes me uncomfortable is, I've seen other times where Midnight is not just a color, but it's different. If I buy a product that Yamaha says is different, and it doesn't fit, that seems stupid on my part.

I will go in (for a 5th time) and see if I can rectify it.

Another thing is, I've ordered parts and have seen, "XJ750 Maxim" (no letters after), XJ750M" and "XJ750MK". Mine has always been just the XJ750 with nothing behind it except "Maxim." This site doesn't list a XJ750 without any letters after it.

I can't say the website is wrong, that's why i said, "could be..." It is just hard for me to buy a part that Yamaha says is not the same. I want to make sure before I get something.

Thank you for replying. Hope we can get this figured out.

    Chris.

I just can't fathom taking the word of a counter-person, who's likely only ever seen photos of a Midnight Maxim, over that of a person who's held the two parts in his hands.

The "current" Yamaha parts lists are incorrect for the '83 Mid Max............and correct for the standard '83 Maxim.........both sides of both models use the 22R-23110-00-00 part...........the 22R-23111-00-00 is a "bad part number" (typo, conversion software burp, etc.), which is also why that part number comes up as "Unavailable in price book"............instead of "Not Avaialable" (as it properly shows for the discontinued 22R-23110-00-00 inner tube). It can't be "found in the price book" because no such part number exists, because it is a typo.

"23111" is the part group for the inner tube's CAP BOLT, but there is no "22R" version of a cap bolt (the '83 models uses 20X-23111-0-00). The first 3 positions of a part number (in this case, 20X) designate the first model bike series that the part was initially designed for/used on, thus for this cap bolt, it's a 1983 XV750 Virago (which carried the 20X model ID code). The '83 Maxim's used the same cap bolt, but the cap bolt was originally designed for the '83 Virago.

Both inner (chrome) fork tubes for the 1983 XJ750 Maxim and the 1983-84 XJ750 Midnight Maxim carry the same part number (and are the same physical part): 22R-23110-00-00

Be wary of dealerships, especially their parts department help, they tend to be totally ignorant of Yamaha part number schemes and of internal glitches within the parts systems. P.S. this is typically due to lack of training, rather than the brainpower of the counter help.

I do have an official Genuine Yamaha Service Manual that is full of typos. Wonder whats wrong with these guys?

On the software, the guy had a place where he can click to take him to a screen that shows other models. Wish I would of known that Midnight Maxim worked. I could of gotten one for almost nothing last year, but passed since Yamaha said it "wasn't the same."

Would this one be the same as the one on my bike? Link; http://www.ebay.com/itm/1983-YAMAHA...ash=item5d6b73c867:g:itYAAOSw-0xYPdED&vxp=mtr

    Free shipping also.

    Thank you,
    Chris.

Would not be the first time (or second, or third, or forth) people on the forums are wrong. What if you got a job there, and now your the guy behind the counter? The one who people on the forums say doesn't know what he's talking about?

I noticed when I asked if this will fit, you didn't say, "it's an 83, it will fit", but just, "that's an 83 fork assembly" because I don't think your very confident the midnight will fit.

This person has a "left" and a "right" off the bike. Does it matter which one I get? Does he have the left and the right because the typo in the Yamaha software?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

There IS a difference between left and right sides due to the LOWER (outer) fork tube. Besides the lower fork tubes, left and right sides are identical. If you want to use just the INNER (chrome) tube, then it does not matter whether you purchase an entire LH or RH assembly.

Oh, I forgot about that. Of course, the lowers are different. I may just have him send the best upper, and he can keep the lower to save on shipping.

    Thanks for the reply,

This is what we already know from first page of post
You are looking for UPPER fork tube for 83 XJ750 Maxim
    info you were given

Who assured you that the uppers from a Midnight Max 750 would fit

then this member guided you to sets where the upper tubes would fit

    then again
    then you post this
I confirmed it was an 83 fork assembly With you Knowing (or assuming) it was from a Midnight maxim by the ebay ad.
so my apologies for assuming you just wanted to use the upper fork tube .
you may want to contact ebay seller the bike the tube came from may not be a Midnight
some people like to paint bobbers all black he is selling the frame ask what the vin is.

If you can get the ebay sales to dissemble the fork assembly for you let use know, most ebay sales will not do special requests on items because it costs them labor to do it.

just another thing about dealerships parts people.
I went to dealer needing a few shims thought I would save time getting them there as they were listed as aftermarket dealer of the shims.
gave them a list ,stating the bike model that I wanted 29 mm shims and listed the shim sizes.
20 minutes later after searching his computer and hard copy book parts person said we do not have shims 29mm thick so I had to explain about the diameter of the shim vs the requested thickness sizes I listed on the paper I gave him.

shows how much he knew about bikes built and sold before his DOB.

are you going to replace fork seals at least when you do the tube swap?
Make sure to give the person who buys your bike the web site so we can help him.

I thought I'd ask to take the bottom off to save them money shipping from the farthest place possible in the U.S. (NW to SE). Probably not worth it, they could strip the threads or something. Better off just having them send me the fork as they have it.
Just replaced the fork seals. Was planning on slipping off the bottom, putting the new upper fork in. put the bolt then slid it into the triple clamps.

Just remembered one place that was different was the battery. One place I saw had listed Midnight Maxim, and the 750 Maxim as a different battery. May of been another Yamaha typo.

I've had so much fun on this bike. Put 16,000 miles on it. One problem, with my set up (king-queen seat), I am stuck in the exact same position and can hardly move to different at all. I'm right up against the back of the seat. Kind of hard on the knees and shoulders. Here is a picture of my bike from a few years a go.
