Anyone with an 83 xj550 have a pic of the helmet lock? Curious of where it is mounted, and exactly what it looks like.

I just noticed today that mine is about to fall off. Hope I remember to tighten it up before I take off to work tomorrow!

Does anyone use the helmet lock? I'm too paranoid to leave my helmet in public. Plus, uv rays damage the finish, so I avoid prolonged exposure. Plus the girlies look when you're carrying the helmet!

I agree 100%.....probably will never be used. Just want to bike to be 100% complete, and the fact that it was missing kinda bothered me.....

I uses it on rare occasions, like if I know I'll not be able to set my helmet down during whatever I'm there for.

I use mine all the time, like when I am going into a store, etc.

However, it does cause the lining of my helmets to fade.

Most of the places I go on the bike are short stops so I usually just leave the helmet hanging from the right side of the handlebar. The throttle rocker helps keep it from falling should some not nice person bump into it. Being as I removed the grab rail the helmet lock is attached to I'm kind of stuck with that. I bring it in at work instead of leaving it sit outside all day. Maybe this winter I'll get creative and find a new place to mount the helmet lock.

I usually carry a backpack with me while riding, and I just strap the helmet to the back of the backpack and carry it that way. Just don't bend down to pick something up or it comes around and smacks you in the head :p

Where I live, I could get away with hanging it on my handlebars, but why, when I can lock it and ensure it is still there when I return?

no helmet law here very low on the thing to steal and try to sell, very few helmets worn and mostly you see the half shell at best

I use my helmet lock every time I park outside, unless I'm somewhere that I can carry the helmet in and not get funny looks.

I usually stuff my gloves into my helmet and then hang it on one of the rear turn signal stems. Occasionally I will lock it up if I am in a sketchy neighborhood. I'm so naturally good looking that I don't really need to carry my helmet with me to attract the attention of the ladies. I usually find it attracts more male attention anyways. 'Hey Bro, what are you riding? ... Really? My friend's uncle has a Harley!'

I'm unnaturally good looking. Doods are overwhelmed with jealousy, which makes them avoid any contact. Ladies throw themselves down in front of me. The helmet is to protect me from them.

If I carry a full face helmet around, too many people ask me to put it on....mmmmh....similar to a brown bag over the head???

I have on previous bikes, but my helmet would rest on my exhaust if I used the lock on my Maxim. Also, the lock is quite questionable and doesn't like to open... I'd be more than a little irritated if I got my helmet stuck on it.

Clean/lube the lock and lock cylinder.
The passenger footpeg is meant to be deployed when using the helmet lock. Your helmet will rest on it instead of the exhaust.

    Ah, that makes sense.

Sadly, the trouble arises due to some creative lock picking that happened at some point in the bikes history. Apparently it involved a screwdriver and a hammer =\

The lock still mostly works but is fiddly, and replacing it is way down the list on account of poverty :)

Gas tank lock too, but while it looks much worse, it works a lot better.
