Ow, my eyes........I think my eyes just threw up.

I like how the motor mount nuts have been painted with cloaking paint. Can't even see them at all-----it's like they're not even there! ----oh, wait.....they're not.

I like the rust bleeding through the paint.

I wonder what profession the professional is in........

The muffler wrap is already chewed up

It obviously doesn't run good.....there's no chain, nor hand controls, etc.....and it obviously doesn't stop good either, considering there's no brake controls.

    Wow.........

What the heck is that thing they're using as a peg? Looks like a raccoon trap. "Professional custom build" for sure... professional clown!

I like the "professional" look of the back drop. Come on, if you are a pro and trying to sell it for that price move it to a location that looks well taken care of at least....I bet she is a runner

I guess I should have said, "Why the heck is that thing they're using as a peg?" The bike is the real trap here!

    Yeah, you're right......probably the best-said statement.

I just noticed that he said it's a combination of 3-4 bikes. Really? Three or four just to get this much?

    I'm gonna stop looking now

"I would take $2,500 how it sits, price will rise as assembly continues"

LOL, judging the man's work, I would say the real price will decrease the more time he puts into it.
Unless he's paying to get it out of his yard.
Seriously, the bike looks right at home there.
Agree, the weed must be strong in those parts.

After looking at that mess, I feel really good about my daily rider. If that is "$2500 as it sits," mine must be worth at least $10,000.

I was eying up that 750 seca as well. Unfortunately the warden has said no more bikes until the house is finished and we are living in it. Good thing I found a 750 midnight maxim very close to home that she doesn't know will be coming home at some point...

I always thought of it as a digital classified section. Some stuff is free some is barter/ trade and everything (in my mind) is OBO.

And you can sell almost anything. I sold a rusted front sway bar from a 93 YJ (jeep) with dry rotted bushing for $25!!!

Smh... Definitely optimistic! Nice to know that you can chop off some parts, rattle can everything black and ask $2500 though?! At least they both still have their stock air boxes!

    https://dayton.craigslist.org/mcy/d/yamaha-maxim-650-cafe-racer/6249476274.html

So beautiful, that he can't get a decent picture of it, or show us the right side! Again, still has the stock air box though lol.

Out of the 40 maxims and 10 Secas I found in my 5 state area, most of them are in pretty decent, complete shape. Nice to see so many good examples, and some good deals like this 550 Maxim parts bike for $250:

    https://chicago.craigslist.org/nch/mcy/d/yamaha-maxim-550/6256585391.html

The Seca's seem to be much less molested, here's the most optimistic:

    https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/mcy/d/1982-yamaha-seca-650-clean/6243120758.html

Nothing crazy here except the price.

That 700 bobber look s just like every other bobber out there ---

'Lets see...how can I make this look DIFFERENT than everyone else's? I know!........
    ...cut the back off
...put ugly apes on it so I have less control of the bike
...take the mufflers off so it's obnoxious
...rattle an everything black so it's not beautiful anymore
---Put teeny lights on so no one can see me
....wrap two of the pipes... I gotta use some wrap, that's a rule, isn't it?
....ask stupid $$ and hope someone on Xjbikes will buy it, cuz they're just a bunch of Xj nuts who buy anything that remotely resembles an XJ. I bet they'll jump right on it......"

So now it looks like every other meh bobber out there

    -------------

    '82 Maxim BOBBER

'Let's see...how can I make this look DIFFERENT than everyone else's? I know!........
....follow the same list as above except
    ....not use apes
....keep mufflers cuz they're full-length units
....not have all the blinkers working so people don't know which way I'm going
....don't have a working horn so I can't alert anyone or thing that 'I'm here (cuz they can't see a blacked-out bike)
....tell people the gas gauge doesn't work (even thought the 650 Maxim didn't come with one in the first place)
....ask stupid $$ and hope someone on Xjbikes will buy it, cuz they're just a bunch of Xj nuts who buy anything that remotely resembles an XJ. I bet they'll jump right on it......"

So now it looks pretty much like many of the other bobbers out there

    ---------

    Next one...... Following similar suit

    ---------

    550 Maxim for $250

NOW--- there's a good find. A very good parts bike. Get a good frame and swap it out.

    ---------

    650rj

Actually pretty decent, except a couple minor things. Maybe a little on the high side, but it give wiggle room, and I wouldn't be surprised if it sell for close to that.

( one of the MANY years that Yamaha had dual-disc brakes th0ugh........and one of the many hundreds of thousands of bikes that Yamaha had dual discs on. Better to say "one of the two years this model was available in the USA")

Methinks there's a flaw in your logic... Do you believe there are more bobbed xjs than stock bikes? I would say that if originality is what you want, leaving the bike the same as the other 10,000 that Yamaha produced would not be the way to go.
I agree with you that the bike is not better, but it is more unique. I would never buy someone's discarded chop, I simply don't trust the mechanical skills of someone who would treat a bike like those poor beasts have been treated.
Don't get me started on wrapped pipes, on bike shows I've watched on teevee, that is often a way to cover up badly welded exhaust!

    Re-read how I wrote that.
First part---- my words, my opinion.
Second part---- tongue- in-cheek, 'thoughts of the builder'

I think by now you know I am totally not into bobbed bikes

It seems that the "bobbed" look is becoming the way to go for stock bikes too. I agree with you that you are entitled to your opinion, and I definitely respect it. If I get an 85 Max, I'll probably do a copy of your pseudo Bob, and call it a tribute so you don't sue!
If I misinterpreted your comments, it is due to stupidity. I thought you were saying that the bobber plan was unoriginal. It isn't, nothing new under the sun, but it is more unique than stock.

Well..... The overall bobber plan ISN'T original, in my opinion. Everyone THINKS they are making their bike so incredibly different from everyone else, but TO ME they all look pretty much the same.

The pseudo- that I do, is 100% reversible, NOTHING is cut (unless you cut the original seat-.....I bought a second seat to cut so I didn't cut the original. On mine, EVERYTHING is reversible and I can put it back to bone stock in under an hour.

I know the pseudo is reversible- that's why I hope to emulate it someday. The chopped off frame on these bikes scares me and looks all out of proportion!
To me, stock ujms are just that, universal. I don't dislike, they're why we're all here! But a cb looks like a kawi looks like a 'zukumber. Xjs are a little different cuz of the shaft, but style wise, not so unique. I'm just pointing out that even if all bobbers look the same, there are less of them than the stock bikes, and therefore are more unique.

Are those the stock pipes? I have been without Seca for so long that I can't remember! It is a nice looking example, if it's as good in person, I'd bet that the luggage and fairing would almost be worth the cost! Depending on how it runs, of course, I'd make an offer.
