    First off, hello!!
I'm new to xjbikes, and new to motorcycles in general. Just got my first, a 94 xj600 seca ii. I'm restoring and doing a cafe style bike, and currently having issues with the bikes revs climbing at idle and dropping slow after I twist the throttle. Carbs were just cleaned, linkage snaps back no problem. Vacuum problem?! How can I diagnose my new (to me) bike? Stoked to be part of the xj family!! Pics to come. I live in Portland 97202 if any ones local, let's link up!!

Vacuum leak, or sticky throttle tube/ cable.

Diagnose for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner. Spray it methodically until you find the spot(s) where the engine speed rises.

When the carbs were cleaned did the throtle shaft seals get replaced? Were the float levels set by measurement, or by monitoring the fuel level?

Is it starting normally? Make sure the choke cable isn't sticking/over tightened. My 650 Maxim likes a bit of choke/warm up before it idles right and it revs a bit high at idle when the choke is on

Kmoe: Somebody else did the carbs, so I'm not sure.. I don't think he replaced the seals, he actually seemed pretty rushed and I'm pretty frustrated with his work in general, he might not have done any of that... where would I be spraying?

Jsngrimm: Bike seems to start fine with the choke, but periodically will shoot way way up with the choke on.

Pulled the tank today and checked it out, seems like the tube from the petcock to the pump is a little on the loose side, I'll be fixing that tomorrow. Thanks for the quick response!!

Herbert, I would love to know how this came out, and what you did to fix it. My 82 xj550r is having the exact same problem, and I'm not sure where to start.

Please start a thread for you bike.
Then start checking for vacuum leaks.
