Set of Carbs for Seca 550.

I bought them along with other extra parts as part of the deal when I bought my 1982 Seca 550. Don't need them. Can't say anything good or bad about them. Only know you can't get them anymore.

I'm sure they need to be gone through, cleaned, etc.

Thought I'd list them for sale here before I put them on ebay. Rather see them go to someone who frequents this website. Will give it a few days here before I do list them on ebay.

    $275.00 + shipping OBO.

You can get them..... for that matter, I have probably close to a dozen racks of them.

Of course, now that I mention that---- maybe that's why you cant get them anymore ...... cuz I have them all.

275 is wayyyyy overpriced for those carbs unless they have been throughly cleaned and rebuilt.

Agreed. If I was desperate I'd go up to 100 GBP (130 US) but they do come up quite often..

Thanks for the pricing feedback guys! I appreciate it.
Sorry if I'm wayyyyy off on that. I was just going off what I'd seen on ebay.

I got quite a few parts with the bike I bought, some NOS. I've been using ebay as a guide for their value.

Where I'm at, the 550 racks are selling for more like $200+/- for a decent rebuildable rack, and ones that are totally rebuilt, synced/etc....... Go more than double or triple that but that's for a rack that is TOTALLY rebuilt.....as in to my, or Chacal's, or a couple other guys here's, standards.. Not just 'any Schmoe who thinks they rebuilt them by spraying the 0utside........'

If they are dirty, rusty, etc....... They drop to about $50 or less...quickly, due to the amount of work and parts needed.

You can't post pics til you've made at least 5 Posts...you have 3 more to go first......

Pics already posted and they look nice, but then looks are just part of it as you know better than just about anyone. Odds are they need the deluxe rebuild kit from Len to be serviceable, and that would seem to make a nice looking set be worth $100 to $150. Now if they already had a verifiable kit installed and rebuilt to Church of Clean standards, yes $275 would be a good price.

Although that kind of price only covers the parts for the rebuild, not much else.........

Thanks for the additional info on the value of the carbs! It's obviously all new to me.

I understand and agree with the comments regarding the value of having carbs rebuilt to a high standard of quality by a qualified person. I can rebuild and dial in a (as in one...singular) carb pretty well. When it comes to a set of four, I leave that to the experts. That's over my head. One of the first things I did when I bought my 82 Seca this summer was take it to a Yamaha dealer that has lots of experience with these bikes. Their lead mechanic used to prep the Seca's for the dealership when they were selling them new and do subsequent tuning on them after the sale for customers. He did the carbs and valves for me. Runs perfect!

That's why I'm selling the extra set of carbs. I don't need them since the carbs on my bike were able to be dialed right in.

Thanks again for the input and guidance regarding selling the carbs.

You're fortunate.....most dealers have no clue what to do with these bikes. So, they charge ridiculous amounts of money hoping that either people will run away, or they'll make a lot of money guessing at what to do with an older bike since it can't get hooked up to a computer.

Regardless, you don't need a dealer anyway......we're all right here. I know it will sound glib, but we probably know more about YOUR bike than HE knows about the secas anyway.......

Thanks hogfiddles. I'm glad I found the XJBikes Forum! I love the Seca's and have just started working on mine to bring it up to the condition I'm envisioning for it. I'm sure I'll utilize the experience you all have in the future.

You literally have the whole xj-world brain trust right here at your fingertips..... as well as every single part you'll need--- unless it's unobtanium----in which case, someone here will have it anyway, you'll just have to convince them to give it up.

True, it may take a little longer than "pick it up in two day", but here you:

    Get free diagnosis
    Get free instruction
You get to learn how to do it right
You get to learn how to do it better
You get to learn how to do it quicker
You get to find out you have a member nearby
    Etc.... etc..... etc......

I need to replace the #1 carb body on my rack (furthest to the left, closest to the petcock). Any chance you would be willing to break up one of your many racks and sell just the #1 carb body??

Let me see if I have an incomplete rack---I won't break a complete one, but if I have an incomplete one with a good#1, we'll be ok. Give me a day or two to scrounge
