One coil per spark plug. Usually mounted directly on/over, or very very close proximity to the spark plug itself

Gsxr coil over plugs with compatible harnesses to take the place of your old coils and wires.

Yamaha never upgraded their coils from 1985-2007-all others did-these are Coil On Plug meaning the coil is directly on top of the spark plug so it does not have to travel down a wire that will corrode. You will get instant fire meaning quicker throttle response, easier starts (usually 1/2 turn of the starter) quicker hot starts-(this will save on your starter life and also preventing the dreaded starter clutch these are known for)-They cannot crack like your stock coils do.

My earlier coils and wires are functioning fine, only thing I have done is snip 1/4" off the boot end, not even sure if it was needed but all the cool kids here are doing it.

    - perhaps the 1981 version are superior?

JJ - sorry about being a smart ass (Matti is a role model for me)! I wish you luck with you entrepreneurial endeavor. I am sure there may be a market for these, a lot of people here prefer the original stock configuration.

Actually someone with a vmax i built a set for was requesting another set for his maxim 1100. I am looking for the ohms rating on a stock 1982 maxim 1100 to help him out.I have made cops for vmaxs' since 2001 and have been quite successful at it for years. Find it interesting that you yourself speak for so many without every trying them. If there is someone else besides Stump that could help i would appreciate it as would help others.

    XJ1100 models:
    Pick-up coils:
    120 ohms +/- 20% = 96 ohms to 144 ohms acceptable range
    Ignition Coils:
Primary side (input from main wiring harness):
    2.5 ohms +/- 10% = 2.25 ohms - 2.75 ohms acceptable range

Secondary side (spark plug wires, without their end caps):
    11K ohms +/- 20% = 8,800 ohms - 13,200 ohms acceptable range

    Spark plug caps:
    5K +/- 20% = 4,000 to 6,000 ohms per cap acceptable range

    Spark plugs:
    0 ohms per plug

    Lighten up Francis.

I stated I was was being a wise guy.
If you spent anytime here (instead of popping in and trying to only swing your wares like an old west snake oil salesman) you would understand that 'lectricty is completely foreign to me and my comment was meant to be humorous with a bit of a snarky edge. I know NOTHING about what a coil should or shouldn't do, but I do know that my bike performs well with what it has.

With that being said why should I kowtow to a newbie who shows up here and only tries to sell his stuff when this community already has a source for XJ parts? Have you @jj harris tried to help others in this community in any other threads? Share you vast knowledge with others instead of just peddling goods before you think you can earn any stripes with me.

In the meantime this 'person who is so overjoyed' with your work HAS a Maxim 1100. So educate me, why can't you get the ohm reading off of their coils?

Well then Wise Guy to answer your questions-I joined to ask the question of what the ohms were and looking for help (Just joined and i build coil over plugs kits for yamaha vmax and ventures---anyone have any info on building sets for 1100 maxims? tia) is exactly what i wrote on my first post. Wasn't trying to sell anything if you are capable of comprehending that sentence.
Read back through the thread carefully and you will read inquiring members wanting to know why and what they did. Still not trying to sell anything on this site-right?
Then i get a pm for one of the vendors here with another inquiry---------------

You are correct for calling me out and I would like to publicly apologize to the XJ Community and @jj harris for my behavior.

JJ came here asking for help and that IS what we do here - my snarky comment(s) and ill attempt(s) at humor have not gone over well.
I will strive to do better in the future. I believe those who know me here understand that I am far from being a mean-spirited person.

Not an excuse but a disclosure:
I am currently facing multiple life challenges outside of this community and feel as if I am being tested - pretty much a legitimate FML scenario. Being right or being wrong has no influence on my personal happiness, the safety of my loved ones and the security of my family. What I need is to get out of my frog mind state of being and find focus on the present.

I like the COPS, changed them on one of my older Bandits, worked really well. My thought is if you add (and want to add) newer tech to your bike why not? Some will always want to keep the stock look and that is fine. Others (like myself) like to update some of the systems for safety, ease of maintenance or rider comfort.. There was no question in how the Bandit ran differently and better.

Hope that this works out for those that want to have the COPS and for those that don't that is fine too. Good luck to all the wrenchers out there with their choice.

if i found the right info
    "Ignition Coil Resistance Primary/ Secondary 0.12 Ohm 10%/ 4.0 Kohm +/-20%"
vmax coils are not the same as 550-750 xj coils, our tci boxes won't like them at all.
and really, used coils, come on now

Not all COPS are the same. Nor do they all have the same resistance. I measure the resistance on all the gsxr,cbr,R1,R6,zx12 & zx10 coils and add resistors to make them compatible--I also build and sell harnesses w/resistors for Dynatek ignition boxes. Ignitech ignitions are designed to adust to any ohm cop.
Used coil over plug rarely go bad and i have have only heard of a few. Stock coils are prone to crack because of heat.
I guarantee every coil i sell for life and have only had to replace 2 in over 6 years. The cost of one COP is usually less than $20 unlike your stock coil. You can also carry it in your pocket and pick up a replacement at any parts supply store. You would have to order your stock replacement coil and it would cost more than 4 COPS.

Because they are more dependable, throttle response is quicker, more easier to obtain, the fire does not have to travel down a wire that can corrode, they cannot crack and lose fire like your stock coil, cost a fraction of the price of your stock coils, quicker starts so easier on the starter and starter clutch & quicker hot starts.

that's kind of redneck but if that's what you want to do, more power to ya
    used, don't forget that part.
    yea right
    angles, it's all about angles
have they been around at least 50 years?
maybe on something with a ecu
yep, travels a foot at the speed of light, and anything can corrode
why do they make replacement ones then
    especially used ones
    tune your carbs

Kind of Redneck? It's is the correct way to make them compatible-
Anyway you look at it one cop cost less than a stock coil and it is an upgrade-go into your local parts store and get your price.
You Can't carry one in your pocket?
Angles? Same size as your spark plug boot.
Have they been around 50 years? New and improved.
    Try running without the ecu.
Still quicker than a spark plug wire.
I have only heard of 2 replacement and that was because end that goes on the top of the plug came loose-it was repaired and not an electrical problem.
Even new they cost less and they work better.
I am one of few in this country that rebuild Vmax carbs and take your Vmax carbs to a Yamaha shop and see what happens.

    Tune your carbs-----https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmsBXXEXyTs&index=9&list=UU3hkC5FHbEK7juSuWAw36Lg

round and round we go, this is going nowhere, v-max, venture, carbs, carrying coils in your pocket, same size as a sparkplug boot........
