Seca rear shock replacement

    My 650 seca has a pair od koni special D, 7610p-1412, 4 setting adjustable shocks. The rods have rust pitting, seals ok at the moment but I guess that won't last long. So the question is, whate is available as replacement or upgrade at reasonable cost? I would like double adjustable, but it all comes at a cost I guess.
    Suggestions?

    IKON were (are?) one of the big aftermarket upgrades, so prepare to spend some money to get something equivalent or better.

    Progressive brand has been well-liked by several of our more respected members.
    KYB is another brand that I happen to like, and they have a wide selection of options at whatever cost you want to pay.
    There is also the choice of buying some used stockers, though you'll want to ask about the mileage of the bike they came from.

    The issue with used stockers - or aftermarket for that matter, is condition is everything, and you have to eyeball them.

    YSS is another brand that has good reviews, and they have several choices in addition to making reasonably priced custom sets.
    I haven't owned a set of their shocks, but the few bikes I've ridden with them on were comfortable and handled well.

    if you are seriously minted, Fournale are THE best, and lightest option available.....I ran two sets, in the early 90's.........sadly, they cost about 1/2 what our XJ's are worth!!!

    That all depends on what you want. Öhlins run anywhere from $500 each for standard street bikes up to around $10K each for custom racing shocks. Stupid money IMO.

    IKON is KONI (rearranged!)....Ikon bought the motorcycle shocks side of the original Koni company.......

    Well I just figured out CHACAL is French for Charles or JACKAL ...was watching one of my Favorite movies Day of the jackal from 1973 and that is a line in the movie.

    Ikon shocks say their kit is rebuildable, but don't offer anything online. I'll send them an email to see if they can do a replacement rod and seals.

    Got an answer from Ikon shocks - pretty much what I expected:
    Thank you.
    Unfortunately the rods only come as assemblies with the internals attached so very expensive & you still have a pair of very old units.
    Buying a new pair would be the way to go. Cost is from £343.70 plus post & VAT or £230.22 plus for the non-adjustables.

    Looks like they don't want to sell bits - makes a mockery of saying these are rebuildable, no need to say I shan't be buying a new set. Shame, but that's how things are these days I guess.

    After replying that "rebuildable" was not a very apt way to describe the ikon shocks, and asking again for the price of spares, waiting some time, a nudge got this reply

    Dear Mr Scourfield, thank you for your enquiry and apologies for any delay.


    We are the new UK distributor for Ikon Suspension, having been recently appointed due to the retirement of the old importer.


    Whilst we are a long established technical motorcycle parts company, Ikon is still a new brand to us and we are very much still in the process of learning, handling the handover, building stocks and making application and technical information accessible to our customers.

    For these reasons, please bear with us, as there may be a slight delay.


    We‘ve requested technical data and spare parts lists to enable us to help with enquiries such as yours. I see from the emails below that Norman had been in touch and advised replacement shocks due to cost of spares, etc, this was reinforced by the manufacturer who advises that although rebuildable it’s not always cost effective, once I have the prices I can advise you accordingly,

    It seems I may yet get a price for these shafts. In the meantime I'm looking at a set off a 750 from Germany, do they fit a 650 maxim anyone?
