Wow... I must be a little weird. That's every bit as bad.
To be honest, I think these XJs are great bikes and don't like when people start cutting them up for just about any reason. Whenever we thought about modifying our big marine engines (Think supertankers or large generator sets), I had a 1st engineer that would say - "When you start thinking you are smarter than 50 life long engineers that spent half their careers perfecting this thing, your head is probably a bit too big."

For the most part it's the same here. The components may not always be the absolute best, but they've been designed to be put together in a way that works extremely well TOGETHER. I prefer not to change that much...

Yep! I think that hit it on the nose! I'm generally prefer to keep classics as they were intended. Bike frames are made with a lot of forethought on safety and handling. I refuse to believe I'm capable of welding together any monstrosity that'll do better.

I'll go against the grain here and say I'd ride them both, just not at the same time. This one is going to roll out of my buddy's "community" bike shop hopefully before the rigid run in September.

It's not the bobbers/choppers that you usually see, I'll give it that.

Ive seen that bike ( or one identical to it) on the web with a write-up on how it was built. I'm not really into trikes, but custom ones do interest me and this one did seem to be pretty decently done.

Hard to say if that rz5 is optimistic... I want one, but not 15 thousand want. They might find someone to pay up!

That pile of Seca parts for 100 is a steal! That's a lot of stuff!

The cheap 650 Seca is sooo close to me. I used to cruise through Vankleek Hill all the time.:(

Disk brake on the front and mag rims on the back don't belong, but the price is right!

Not everyone can ride a two-wheeler while only having one leg, or being paraplegic. One of the coolest custom bikes I ever saw was a GL1000 that had been turned into an permanent hack (sidecar) so the owner could roll his wheelchair onto it, lock in, and go riding.

I suppose that might depend on where you live. HD made tons of them. Longest production run of any model; 1932-1973
They are about the least expensive way to buy a flathead HD in riding condition.
It's also the best idea that they ever stole from Indian.

Matti, they got disc brakes in the front in the 50's and all around in the late 60's. I'd say that it's acceptable to upgrade older years unless it's only going to be a display item.

Sorry, you got me, I just hate paraplegics and have apotemnophobia ;)

Obviously, if there's a good reason for customizing a perfectly good motorbike.. such as you mention.. I'm all for it but taking away a poor motorbikes lean without such is still a Sarlac offence in my book.

Sorry. I thought you said longest production run of any model, which I interpreted as nameplate. They're somewhat interchangeable, but not exactly the same. Effin' English!

I must deviate a bit from the topic.
This is the best ad for work-avoidance that I've ever seen.
"Honey, when are you going to redo the retaining wall!? I've been asking for months."

    Just brilliant.
