I am about once again going to have a bike fixed and rideable. The riding season is still about a month away, my repairs will be done before then.I have the sweetest little 5 pound female dog, neta. If I rode somewhere and decided I wanted to keep on going, or even spend the night somewhere i would be leaving her home alone.I dont know if she would even like being with me on a motorcycle. If there was some way I could find out before I spend too much on the project I am open to suggestions.I know there are some devices for carrying infants on your chest in sort of a pack.Maybe one of those? On a daily ride, 50 miles or so sure she is fine at home. But the longer ones is my question.

a friend of mine rides with his JRT in a sidecar with jacket and helmet for the dog. dog loves to ride.
I think most of the training would depend on the age of the dog.
you could get the chest carrier and see how the dog reacts to being put in it when you walk around. then in a car.

i used to put my dog in the back seat of my jeep with a leash on him . I had to keep shortening the leash . he would go sit on the rear mounted spare. shorter leash he would sit on the fenders. shorter leash again.

a Hard side bag with windshield my be better

Really depends on Neta. You know her the best, Is she relatively calm when upset or is she a freak-n- fly kind a dog?
If she is a run for cover when scared kinda dog, maybe not a good idea to take her on a bike.

Her safety and yours is job 1.
If is she is relatively calm tuck her in your jacket for a ride down the driveway.... see what happens. Then upgrade to a more secure system (baby carrier/ saddle bag safety harness etc.) - although being close to a spinning rear tire would be sketchy in my book.

Sounds like a dog-sitter may be in your future. Hang out at the local dog park and ask around, sure there is a trusted person that will take care of Neta while you take a weekend cruise.

Or - maybe she is a closet biker babe. Try just sitting on the bike with her and see what she does. Then bike on center stand running. Then rolling a couple feet.... maybe she is cool with it?
