Yeah that looks like a pretty good deal actually -- in a previous life I would have flown there bought it and rode it back down through NYC - probably getting into some kind of trouble with a shitty punk band and a woman that looked good at the time. Now I have kids and two cats I'm going to have to pass ;)

We've already talked about this one in a couple other forums already.

Nutshell, it's advertised as original condition, but there are a bunch of things that are not original, including the paint. First time around on eBay, it went to just over $1800 and reserve was not met. Now, this time around it's up to around $2200, and the reserve has not been met. I'm thinking something smells funny.....

Good afternoon XJ experts.....hope all are well.

Regarding the 900 on ebay, I also noticed some non-oem parts on the bike and the front fender color/clear not being correct. Are there other body-work items that appear to be repainted?

I ask because I am likely to be putting my 900 up for sale this fall or over the winter and I want to make sure I don't say original when it is not. I am also debating whether I should replace the brake lines (no cracks but original) and tires (great tread but some minor cracks in the tread) but only if it does not hurt the value of the bike.

Any thoughts and recommendations would be appreciated!

If the tires are have ANY cracks, I'd either replace them or expect to dicker way down to begin with im not as concerned about brake lines if they are good. ALL mine still gave original lined (ok--flame retardant suit is on)

Front fender was repainted, as noted. Rear brake mount should be black, not bare aluminum.

Other things were noted in another forum.

I'd appreciate if you could contact me via a private conversation. I'd like to get your 900 onto the 900rk database if it's not already been registered. No cost to you at all.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate the reply, your observations, and the recommendations.

I keep hoping a nice 900 sells for a little more money so I feel better about what I invested in mine....and that I am not going to lose a bunch of $$ when I sell it. :)

Thanks for keeping the registry....you received my info earlier this year when I started the resto/refurb project on mine.

They still have the air box, so you could just pop it back in if that's your thing. No mention of jets, so either way, I'd feel like I'd have to check...

Well yeah... one power per rev.

Coolest one I had to work on was a B&W slow speed diesel. 23,000 BHP, cruising speed 92 RPM... 4 stories tall.
Somewhere I have a picture of me honing a cylinder liner, standing on the piston with 15 lb angle grinder scuffing it up and the head opening was above my head... wish I could see inside my XJ engine that clearly ;)

If he were to list it as an xv920r, which it is, then he might get some interest

Good eye, there's something funky going on, Virago rear fender installed I think.
This should be highly sought after by the cafe crazies for $500.

Note the 920R has a completely different rear fender arrangement. The one in the add has a chrome Virago fender without the hugger.

I'm not sure I'm remembering right, but I feel that was just the one year they had them. There were later models that were straight-up Viragos with a bigger engine? like 82-83?

But... I am going off memory and it certainly ain't what it used to... where am I? Who are you people? I want my oatmeal!

The XV920R later became the TR1 when the Virago was bumped up to 1000cc.
North America did not get the 1000.

These chain-driven things were never badged as Viragos.
