I recently got my 1982 Seca 650 back on the road and noticed the trip odometer isn't
working properly. The first two number wheels turn and the third number starts turning but then slips. All numbers turn with the reset knob. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there away to fix problem? Could it be caused by speedometer cable ? Any help would be great since it doubles as the fuel gauge.

    Thanks in advance.

    Bryan, you cheesehead! :)
Are you speaking of the first two numbers on the right hand side?
It sounds like perhaps the plastic cogs are compromised on the number that is not turning.
A dissection and creative use of Gorilla glue might fix it...

Sit tight chances are good there is someone here who has been inside of the odometer and might be able to offer better advice.

Where you at? There's a good number of cheeseheads floating around here. I'm just south of Tomahawk.

    My advice is the same.

Be careful in there though. Yamaha did not build the odometer portion in a way that makes it easy to disassemble. You will have to work on it in its assembled state.
If it comes down to it, you can find a replacement speedometer and re-clock the odometer to match the current one.

Appleton is the place I call home. I ride through the Tomahawk area once and awhile, nice area to ride. Yeah the first and second numbers on the right turn , but that third number just won't engage fully, it tries but fails.

Found a solution? My speedometer is working fine, but my odometer has stopped (total and trip odo) During a weekend trip I saw the needle go all over the place, wobbling 15- and 15 + the actual speed. Stopped And fiddled with the odo reset screw and checked if the cable was properly seated and not broken. After that the needle was perfectly still in place at every speed. Before it had a slight wobble. Ever since the odo has stopped working.
When i opened the unit to lubricate and try and see what the problem is, I saw there's a little reed/hall sensor above the magnetic spool at the end of the cable. Is that the signal for the rpm gage?
I couldn't get the unit out of the plastic shell because I didn't know how to take the reset screw out, so I still don't know here the problem lies or if there is a way to fix it.

The reed switch is used to signal distance traveled for the automatic turn signal cancel unit. The tachometer signal comes from the grey wire on the right ignition coil.

The odometer is entirely gear driven. I'd recommend opening it up and having a look to see if you may have misaligned something when you last had it apart.
Based on your forum name, you have these gauges.

You are the MVP in this thread! thanks. I never thought of the right loosening reset screw.
