I'm rebuilding the carbs on my 81 Xj550 Seca and after pulling out the pilot screws I noticed that there was the screw itself, a spring, and a washer. I did not see any O-rings. Should there be one? I am also one washer short. How important is that washer?

The o ring can get stuck in the bore. I use a paper clip straighten out and bend a small hook on the end and fish out the o ring.

I have a precision screwdriver that is very thin, and I bent the tip to a flattened J, and reach down in to push/roll the o-ring away from the wall, and then hook it and lift it right out.

there are tiny orings you need to find and remove them . make a hook and use a bright light.
the washer seals the oring with out it the spring will damage the o ring.
    www.xj4ever.com aka chacal sells them
