Anyone have any experience with the Sprint ST, especially the 955i? I'm looking to tear my XJ750 apart this winter and I'm thinking I may pickup a 2003 Sprint ST for spring.

I've got an '06 ST 1050. Suspension is a bit weak but it needs a refresh. Same with charging system But it's got 60,000 miles on it and after a valve adjustment it blew great numbers across the board.
The triple really is something else, so torquey you don't notice how fast you get to redline or how fast you're actually going. I'm sure the 955i weighs about as much as the Seca 750 maybe even a little less, but will have 30+more HP and 30+ ft-lbs of torque.

I had a 750 (without the fairings) and I've got a Turbo. The triumph revs about the same, but it pulls from 3000 rpm with most of that torque. It's definitely a different feeling not having to spool up that torque. It's be my top bike in the stable if I didn't get a BMW k1300s first

Thanks ManBot13 I'd heard they are a great bike for all types of riding and that triple has great torque and a fantastic sound. I love the looks of them and they seem to be pretty reliable. I'm working out the details of picking one up right now. One way or another I won't be without a bike come spring!
BTW we got real snow today, the XJ is officially parked :(

That’s the bike. I love the look, the triple and it has a decent compromise riding position.

I was thinking the same (It's a nice one). I'd need a bigger garage to take on a 3rd bike. Getting the cars in the garage before it snows is still a priority with us (and keeps my wife a lot happier!).

Thanks guys. I must admit I've been going through triumphrat.net and the YouTube videos trying to find problems and talk myself out of this but I think it's something I have to do and see if it's the bike I want it to be. Might last a season or it might be a forever bike. One way or another I'm going to find out.

actually problems with those are kind of hard to find. probably a lot of bikes have horror stories if you look, it's just that the crankshaft is kind of important.
my sv1000s has all sorts of problems, but i'll ride it till it's broke

Damn I like that too! Is that the Trident? Really kinda reminds me of a naked version of the Seca 900.

The trident was older. My wife's uncle has one he's had since new in the early 70's.

Hinkley also has a Trident, as pictured above.
    #14

Production of them started in 1990.
The re-start of the company didn't have much going for it at first, so they used every name they owned to gain buyer interest. Did a good job of it too.

Yes it is a nice bike. I liked the original overhead valve Triumph Trident l thought it looked great. Never owned one. They got a few old Triumphs in the Glasgow transport museum a few Harleys and a Vincent V 1000 the last time l was there. If l had the money l would have a garage full of bikes.

Yes the marketing worked using all those famous names. I remember when l was young reading about all the old British bikes. BSA bought an early Honda CB750 SOHC for evaluation but the final drive chain snapped after five hundred miles surprisingly and BSA ignored the threat from Japan. Crazy really. There is also a book called The Decline of the British Motorcycle Industry, interesting read. Motorcyclists here used to call early Japanese machines Jap Crap. How wrong they were.

Friend of mine is a Trumpet nut, he currently has a sprint and a rocket, he did have a daytona, all have been very reliable bikes. The sprint is his daily commuter and the rocket has been all over Europe
Personally I like the new bobber

Those pipes look awesome, very strange how they put a Y in there and make it look like a four. Those are the Triumphs I remember as a kid.

A friend of mine has a Tiger and loves it. It’s a 955i like the sprint I’m looking at. He’s been on a bunch of long trips, 2,000+ kms, and swears by it’s reliability and power.
I’m hoping to get the Sprint to use as my daily rider and put some effort into rebuilding the XJ. I’ve always loved that bike and I don’t want to do a half-assed job on it.
BTW the dealer sent an email this morning offering to take another couple of hundred off the bike. It’s a beauty and I don’t want to wait too long. Might have to jump at it in the next couple of days.

Looks like I'm heading down to get the Sprint on Monday. They open Tuesday and it's supposed to be 11 Celsius so I can take it for a ride before I fork over cash. I'll bring back up here on Wednesday and introduce it to the XJ.

Say hello to my little friend!
I’d like to introduce you To Brother Seca’s sexy little Sister Sprint. She arrived home yesterday with proud poppa Chuck to meet momma Brenda and her bro. I’ve nicknamed her Venom coz she’s like my symbiote and she’s got one mean as F$&@ growl!
The plan is for Brother Seca to undergo some much need upgrades, convalesce and return in tiptop condition (don’t worry I’m not giving up on my beautiful boy). He needs to be restored to his original handsome self. I’ll post some more pics a little later.

Thanks Franz. I'm not sure I'm keeping the auxiliary lights, but I'll wait until I'm riding her to decide. I nearly went over the handle bars the first time I hit the brakes. I thought the brakes on the XJ were strong but the dual four pots on this are incredible.
Now I'm really looking forward to getting into the XJ and setting all right again.

Yes Spearchucker the brakes will be more powerful than the XJ, glad you didn't crash. You will be looking forward to getting a few miles on the Triumph now. If you want to post a few photographs of your progress on the XJ over the winter that would be great.

You can squeal the front, on the Sprint, lol....I sold my RS955i.....its half faired brother, two years ago......I DO miss it, great bike, watch the plugs for water ingress ( there's an 'updated' coil stick cover?) also, the wiring around the head/ignition area is TIGHT, can get pulled out of the ignition....< no, really, I re routed mine, somewhat, the swingarm bearings need to be greased , along with the mono shock linkages......they come almost dry from the factory,, other than that, my RS never missed a beat.......great torque, she'd pull from 20MPH in 6th all the way to 152 (GPS) and still get 52+ MPG if needed !! ( You could download engine Tunes, to the ECU with a laptop and a USB cable, TuneECU was the site, if I remember......I did a 'Massive Midrange ' Tune which greatly improved the 'midrange' torque curve!!) DON'T try to tighten or re torque the engine/frame bolts, you need a special tool, and shims or the frame can be cracked!!)
