What are y'all waiting for? We aren't getting any younger. Let's do this! Sellout by 15 January is our goal. After that, it goes to the chrome crowd! Do you really want a BMW in your parking spot? Or a Harley?

I'd love to make it down next year but it would be a heck of a trip for me and with as nice as those bikes look I'm not sure my old piece of junk would fit in...

My other issue is vacation time. I only get 10 days and deer hunting takes half of it plus a day here and there for rides around the area, camping trips, etc. Definitely going to keep it in mind though

All right you dirty dogs, next year I'll get more photos of less washed, more ridden Yamaha motorcycles. There are always plenty of them, mine included. It is a truly enjoyable event, no matter what you're riding.

For those considering bringing a tent and sleeping bag, take as much time as you need. For those who prefer a bed, I'm working to sell this out by January 15. That's how long the Iron Horse gives a a lock on the place. I uploaded a few more pictures to the 2018 album on FB last night. http://facebook.com/vintageyamaharally Short videos at http://vintageyamaharally.com/gallery

For reservations, contact the Iron Horse:
    Monday – Friday 9am – 2pm (Phone & Email) TEL: 828-479-3864

Will you have any bike? A sports car? Pickup truck? Someone brought an old Harley this year. Somebody kept laying a rag under it. :D

82 KZ750 is my rider for the moment. Most likely trailer or truck it if we came, not sure I could do a ride that long on it.

I say bring it! No one will give you grief about riding an old Kawasaki....much. Look through the FB photos, you'll see nice vintage Kawasakis. It's more about people than anything else. We share a common interest. Many of us drag our wives along and most of them seem to enjoy the rally as well. The Iron Horse is a nice resort.

I’d like to go to this but it’s about a 3000 mile ride. Anyone know of any Japanese or Yamaha only on the west coast?

No. It's only 2,600 miles. We have a rider who comes from Simi Valley, CA (2,300 mi). He's done it three times. In 2017 he did it on an XJ1100. Last year he was on a new Harley and it broke down several times. They fixed it, but it took him a month to get home.

If you want a vintage Yamaha rally on the left coast, you should start one. Right now, we are it.

I’d like to but it’s more than a one person effort. I’m retired now and not really looking for a job. I put together events for decades as a member of Mopar Muscle Club and various street rod clubs. There is an older Japanese bike event by the name of Trevor’s just up the road from me in Canada I will try to attend next summer.

    Nice bike!

My first motorcycle was a '78 Kawi 400. Very similar but in green.

You posted on a thread for a rally in North Carolina. You'll probably have better luck posting your question to the appropriate forum.

The white XJ400 has a curved license plate mounted at or near the rear axle.

You have to be careful about state requirements when you do such things. For example, in Georgia they don't fuss about vertical or horizontal, or where you put it. The law says legible, so in front of the back tire will get you a conversation with the deputy. They are fussy about it being lighted. The law says lighted.

All that said, I don't know where Bob's XJ400 was tagged. A nice bike for sure!

    Vintage Yamaha Rally Attendees,

Nancy and I have come up to the Iron Horse for a weekend get away and found some very significant changes here!!!

Many of the facilities have been updated and improved.
    • The front parking area has been re-done with concrete.
    • A larger trailer parking area was created behind the semi-private cabins.
    • Additional covered parking concrete bike parking adjacent to the lodge.
    • Most of the buildings have a new coat of paint.
    • The meeting room has been significantly improved with more seating, new pool tables, etc.
    • The previously stone parking areas at Lone Star & Homestead are now concrete (probably will help those Harley guys avoid dropping their bikes)
    • An alternate entry/exit created to access Lower Stecoah Road.
    • Apparently there was a lake behind the bunk house? Never saw it before but it's being beautified and made accessible. I'm told it's STOCKED to the gills (LOL)
    • It appears many other changes/upgrades are coming as well.

Although the Iron Horse has been the best facility in the area, it was showing a little age here & there. Seems that is being addressed ++++

Nancy & I hope to get an opportunity to speak to the owner and get more information we can share with ya'll.

    Pictures will be coming!

    Kurt & Nancy

UPDATE: The bunkhouse will be updated and an additional bunkhouse added before our rally with ADDITIONAL SPACES in the new updated cabins.
There will also be a couple of Connestoga Wagons installed at the perimeter of the pond available for camping as well.
SO...… if you've been late to the party you can still get a place to spend the night.
Shoot me an e-mail or PM if interested. IH will let me and Jeff know when they are ready and they give us a couple days for our Vintage Yamaha Rally attendees to grab the spots before they are opened to the public.

There will be no shirt sale at the rally. You buy one now. You'll get it at the rally. The sale ends the last day of August. We won't print extras. Capisce?

We're bringing some hats. We printed enough to sell 100% of them. When you come to the rally, you'll have to find me and I can sell you one. If I still have them on Friday afternoon, Nancy will have them at the registration desk. A nice embroidered hat for $20.

If I get enough response here I might get some more.

Demands are high at my job, so I have to do this with a minimum of time off. My XS1100 is hopefully going to make the journey. It has been neglected for a couple of years. I’ve got it on the lift. I replaced the tires yesterday. I still have to finish contending with a fuel leak, change oil, and check remaining fluids. I had the carburetors off for maintenance, and I expect I’ll be checking my work on the nine hour ride to the Iron Horse. So, it goes.

The weather for next weekend is looking real good, sunny and warm with little to no chance of rain. I'll be packing my trailer this weekend. Planning to get there on Wednesday to get some riding in on Thursday and Friday before the rally officially starts.
Hope to see some new faces there this year.

I just called the Iron Horse. They have the #200 Semi-Private Cabin available for $89.95. Twin beds so 2 people and split the cost if you are interested in coming. They also have four (4) of the 110v hookup Tent camping sites available if you want to camp. If RV is more your style they have one (1) RV Hookup site available for next weekend. Contact Iron Horse at (828) 479-3864 if you want to reserve a spot for next weekend. [IMG]

    Meal selection reminder

The Iron Horse will be emailing you their Dinner Menu options for Friday night & Saturday night.
Iron Horse will be updating their dinner menu selections tomorrow and then will send you an email either tomorrow (Mon) or more likely Tuesday. So be looking for your email so you can make your food choices and email them back to the Iron Horse.

Remember Iron Horse isn't a restaurant that serves the general public. They offer Breakfast & Dinner meals to guests. They purchase the food based on the meal count and what people want to eat for dinner.

If you are splitting a cabin with someone else make sure they also get the Dinner Menu so they can select what they want. That helps Iron Horse have enough food to feed everyone what they want.

    > be looking for an email by Tuesday
    > make your selection and email back to Iron Horse on Wed if possible or Thurs
    > if you have roommate let them know they need to make a meal selection too

For Breakfasts, you can make your breakfast selections for Sat & Sun when you check-in at Iron Horse.

    Ride safe ……………….
