I started riding back in November of last year. Since I've bought this bike 90% of my first year of riding has been working on this damn bike. Today, I put the carbs back on the bike turned it on and sprayed starter fluid on the carbs and now there's air leaks. I just want to ride guys. The bike is rideable. I really don't think this is going to be a bike that is going to be with me 10 years down the line. Can I just throw it all back together and ride it even if it runs like shit? I just want to ride.

Like Paul said......"Do whatever you like".....

but when it runs like shit & leaves you stranded, you will feel like shit and be very disappointed in not getting it top running shape.......when these bikes are dialed in, they will leave a smile on your face from ear to ear......

    Dont give up.....

Hi josh. I tried to send you a PM but your mailbox is full on here. Clear it out and send me a message. I’m in San Diego and should be coming up to LA soon to pick up some parts. So I could give you a hand for a day and see what progress could be made on your bike if interested.

That should not be necessary at all. How flexable are your intake boots?

This bike was xj700xsc that was given to me in milk crates the intake boots were extremely stiff using all my weight i could hardly pop one carb into the boot ....all four on the rack took both myself and roommate and losr that battle. The tie down popped them right i

That sure seems a little extreme to most of us here....

Your intake boots are likely done for. They should not be anywhere near that hard. I'd expect cracks to be showing up soon if there aren't any already.
With new boots the carbs roll right in without a lot of force. Even with the old boots I started out with I could put the carbs in with a bit of heat to soften the boots and the help of a wooden hammer handle used as a lever.

if the boots are not visibly cracking you can try a 2 day soak in brake fluid. Odds are you will end up splitting them at this point so be ready to buy new ones. Cleaning them off post-soak is beyond messy. The fluid coats the rubber like slime on an eel.
