Hello everyone, I broke one of the posts off the carb, and I am in need of another. Does anyone have one? Please let me know.

    Thanks
    Glen

I have a few carbs lying around. So is it the bowl or just the body you need? And which carb do you need?

I broke a float post, so I need the body. I think it is 2 or 3 carb. I think those two can interchange if I read correctly.

This is the best way I have found to start to get them out of those towers. Thanks to XS11.com for the pic.

I believe it is the number 3. I'm not sure what a throttle shaft is. The bare one will be fine, because I can use my old cleaned up parts in this one. This is my first time working on a bike, so I'm not mechanic, but willing to learn. Thanks for your help!!!!

The shaft was glued in, that's why I tried tapping on the pin. I should have cleaned it better before I tried taking them apart.

If you have them that far apart are you changing the throttle shaft seals? Those are the ones on the butterfly shafts

Didn't even think of changing them. Do you think I should. I think I have everything clean now. I finally got the drain screws out the other day. Need to get a Q tip in there to clean out the rest of the varnish. I took the cover off where the brake fliud goes, to find everything dried up and crusty. Just one more thing to fix.

Awesome read! I am going to pick up a service manual soon. When I cleaned the carbs, I am able to see light through the jets. I know there is lots of work to be done, and I don't expect to have the bike on the road this year. Baby steps day by day.

I'm not sure. Should I since it has been sitting for so long?

If you just use carb cleaner on the outside and hit the shaft seals the chances are that they will dry up and be brittle and or cracked. Using carb cleaner is okay just what what you spray it on. Carbs are not fun to take on and off so if you have them off the bike go through them good. They type of thing that if you put them back on the bike you should be confident enough not to have to pull them again.

Turns out my 81 is an 82. I found my old regestration from back in 92, the last time I had the bike on the road. Is this going to make a difference with the carb?
