Hiya guys and gals. I don't remember who it was that recommended Chacal when I asked about parts for my 82 Maxim XJ1100 but I wanna thanks him. Not did Chacal have the parts I needed, but the prices was reasonable but he had them. My bike was only made for one year and parts are hard to find. There was a slight hiccup with my order and Chacal took care of it very quickly but also very professionally. I recommend all you folks use him to buy your parts. Thanks Chacal for taking care of me so well.

    John

every thing about his service is top notch . has the parts, knows about the bikes, fast shipping.

I went to the dealership to get valve shims one day. asked for 29mm shims gave the clerk my list of sizes for my bike.
after the clerk looked through the catalog for 15 minutes or so she told me "we do not carry shims 29mm thick ……………..

Clerk was probably about 12 years old and has no clue about bikes. Most shops won’t pay for a good parts person.

Ok 50+ but not very knowledgeable about bikes, anyone can look things up in a catalog and try to be helpful but “come on man” she should have asked someone else in the store about shims

when the proper diameter shims were looked up and proper thicknesses were found I would have been required to by 5 of each size because that's how they were packaged. that was the deal ender .

Another place to get them is a BMW auto dealer, they will sell singles.
BMW “K” bikes and older cars use the 29mm shims and they come in 1/2 sizes.

I like the bmw shims closer tolarence on the size and come in half sizes compared to the Yamaha shims. that means even if the valves are in spec you can still change the shims to get closer to maximum gap spec

Or minimum gap for maximum valve lift and duration = more power

Yesterday, I ordered a bunch of stuff with Chacal. Very pleasant and helpful communication, shipped the same day as the payment. 5*, would shop again!

Now I just have wait patiently until it arrives. :-(
