Tested the cam position sensor for the sequential fuel injection upgrade. Hope to get a lot more done the rest of today.

Total progress yesterday was making new intake gaskets, reinstalling the intake manifold, and painting the injectors. Goals for today are adding the two new injector channels to the harness, adding the cam position sensor to the harness, adding a pull-up resistor for the cam position sensor in the ECU, and maybe reinstalling the injectors.

I put the new speedo cable on the 700 Air Head today, now if this weather ever warms up. Yes the above was a xs, my bad about this thread being the xj....sorry.

Replaced the grips with some Bikemasters, added a clamp to better hold the throttle cable in place, and started on the harness updates (figured out what needs to happen, removed pins that will need to be replaced, and desoldered connections that will need to be separated). Also, accidentally broke a leg off the VR conditioner IC while trying to make sure the attached components had enough clearance from the main board... luckily I had bought two NCV1124s originally, so I had a replacement on hand. Added a 10K pull-up for the cam position sensor to the ECU board.

Just got my custom-made stainless silencers back from fabricators!
Uploaded a couple of pics to peruse....as near to stock as possible...possibly just a bit shorter? See pics.
£200 for both! Whole exhaust system is now stainless.:)
    Regards.

Colors don't match. I just bought what seemed to be the right size silicon tubing and it happened to be purple. The metal tubing is 1/4" brake line instead of soft copper.

Tested the cam position sensor (and the new VR conditioner IC), and they look good. Got good signals from both during cranking. Added the other two fuel injector channels to the wiring harness. Bought a new battery (old one was just not holding a charge).

Also the first time using the Bluetooth serial connection that I hacked into the ECU instead of a cable. Worked great. Will be very helpful to not have to wire up a laptop to the bike to do data capture for tuning.

Got the "unobtainable" air scoops in the mail today so I took a ride to yamaha center and was happily surprised that they still had the original fittings in store, dirt cheap even.

Couldn't be happier, bike is now complete!

Tightened all the muffler and pipes clamps and mounts. Went to clean the YICS passage and it was clean as a whistle. Ran a camera through and all the holes look clean. Tried setting the idle mixture by sound by setting all carbs super lean and adjusting one at a time to rev higher but everything would still run smooth even with only 1/2 turn from bottom on all carbs. Adjusting out more seemed to have little affect. Ended up just putting them back to 3 1/2 turns for now. Balanced the carbs. Everything will need to be redone after after adjusting shims in warmer weather. The big issue I have is with engine rev. Blipping the throttle revs too much and takes too long to come back down. When riding I have to make a point of letting off of the throttle a bit extra before pulling the clutch or it will rev. The cable moves freely and the shaft moves quickly but there is that dang slow to return to idle rev. All boots are in good shape, tight and with no vacuum leaks that I have found. What else could be causing this?

Do you have a ColorTune? That would be helpful... or a stand-alone wideband O2 sensor to check idle mixture. Hanging high when warm still sounds like it's too lean.

Yesterday, installed the new battery, and searched all over but failed to find the replacement injector O rings I'd ordered a couple of months ago. Ordered another set from a local parts store so I should be able to reinstall the injectors this evening. Will run some tests on each of the injector plugs to make sure they're firing correctly before reinstalling the injectors themselves.

Drained the oil out of my xj650 Seca. It hasn't had an oil change in 6+ years because it's been sitting in my parents' shed. The filter bolt is stuck and I almost stripped it. I just ordered a new one online, so have to wait on it before I can proceed :(

Not quite—— you still need the reflectors that’s bolt onto the bottom bolts of the air scoops.

Yesterday evening I tested the four injector channels with a resistor and LED to verify they were wired correctly, and reinstalled the injectors and fuel rail. Probably this evening I will pressure test the fuel rail and pressure regulator, and maybe finish up the wiring harness changes.

Today, I ran out of gas... welding gas. I am installing a catalytic converter... I cut down a small car cat to fit, and was welding it to the front end of the MAC muffler, but ran out of helium/argon mix (stainless welding). No idea whether welding supply is essential or not. Might have to wait a while to finish this...

Recommend the spin on oil filter conversion xj4ever sells was a great investment and cool factor ...and no more seized filter bowl bolts either.

Got a refill of the welding gas and finished the cat to muffler welding. Reinstalled the exhaust header and started on the work to attach the cat to the exhaust pipe.

The welds are kind of ugly, but I think the result is going to be pretty good.

These MAC exhausts are a lot heavier than I'd thought. The muffler and exhaust pipe are about 16ga.

Removed the tank and was armed with starting fluid and a propane torch to check for vacuum leaks. First, though, I watched the throttle cable/shaft action and saw that the return to idle position was fairly quick but not like it should be. I temporarily added a spring helper and now the bike returns to idle speed quickly and runs like it should. It wasn't a vacuum leak at all. I'll run it this way until I have the time and gumption to pull the carbs and break the rack.

I ordered forward controls for my Maxim 650. Really looking forward to installing them. It’s been inconsistent weather here in Rochester NY; so that means that decent riding weather isn’t very far behind. Thank goodness the motor is about to go back in.

    tc bros?

from the instructions If you have a stock exhaust system on a XJ650, you can use a 1975-83 XS650 stock brake pedal and it requires no bending to clear the stock muffler.

Rebuilt my calipers and MC on the Seca. New lines, pads/shoes and tires this weekend. Replaced the steering bearings last night. Just have to put the hogfiddled carbs on and she should be ready for the road.

Has been off the road since 2006 so it will be nice to take it for a rip here soon.

Did some more work on the muffler/cat. The whole muffler is welded back together now, with the cat, but I need to move the location of the oxygen sensor bung since I had to turn the muffler a bit to better fit the cat. So... just a bit more grinding, drilling, and welding to do...

Well the other day , speedo started howling , pulled out of housing lubed and put back together looked like it was fixed ...no joy , pulled out original cluster , swapped out and this fixed , the gimble dries out , after 30 plus years needs lubed every now and then, soaked in PB blaster usually works . The other thing the right turn signal was not working , put new buld in no joy so pulled headlight ....just happened to look right at one of the wires pulled out of the plug...that was easy all working now.

Finished the exhaust and reinstalled it. I found the bung and a plug for it that came with another WB O2 sensor I have, so I simply installed the new one and plugged the old one... which gives me a convenient test port for adding a second WB O2 if I need it for dyno testing/tuning.

I also added a second rivet to hold the baffle in place. The original rivet that came from MAC fell out pretty soon after I'd installed the system. I had replaced it with a screw and nut, but those vibrated loose once when I didn't notice it, and I lost the baffle somewhere in Oklahoma. That "megaphone" muffler is absurdly loud with no baffle. Had to rig up something with Home Depot plumbing pieces to ride home (to Colorado). So, the new baffle is riveted, again, but twice.

Finished the wiring harness work for sequential injection, reconnected the injectors, and ran some Cable Life down the throttle cable (which was getting rather sticky, and now feels great).

Removed the carbs; have everything completely broke down. Also got the forward controls on the bike; need to finish the brake side of the forward controls. 6D5766A8-638F-4289-BE54-229830C3DF5A.jpeg FEC4F1D6-E38E-4094-8519-EFB7C442646D.jpeg 1ED30F4A-BFB3-454A-AA77-9324D5FA56FC.jpeg 94F9A1A7-55B6-4FF9-AA51-D079DF3EACFA.jpeg

Did this last weekend and finally had some free time to post. Got the oil change supplies and changed the oil. Rode around for about an hour enjoying this bi-polar weather. Just counting the days until it gets warm again.

    Ok, let me rephrase then

I accomplished this work last weekend...
I finally have some free time to post this...
I purchased and received the parts needed to accomplish an oil change on my bike...
After the said work was accomplished, I was able to ride around for about an hour, enjoying the weather that changes every 20 min where I live...
I am counting down the days until said weather changes to warmer temperatures so I can enjoy riding again...

    How was that?

The first post you made was a little oddly formatted. But thanks for clarifying; based on your first post I was thinking you installed forward controls on your bike based off your first sentence. “ Did this last weekend and finally had some time to post.
