I have a slow tire air leak ( weeks ).

I know slime is the worst, but I once heard of an alternative that doesn't wreck your rims and make your mechanic want to kill you.

What is a good alternative that doesn't suck?

have you located the hole slow leak? could be rim seal could be valve stem or bad needle in stem loose needle in stem.

liquid sealents coat tire and rim becomes costly to have tire changed. may cause imbalance of tire.

tire patch unless you do it your self, could cost close to what a new tire would cost depends on what tires you run

I'm running the tire that came on the bike lol.

Havent looked for a leak yet. Would be decent of its a bead leak, just clean, bead sealer and rebead.

So it turns out that its a bead leak, is it dangerous to ride around with a very slight bead leak?

I'm going to try and fix it without even pulling the wheel off the bike. Just deflate, clamp down and break the bead or just ride the bike down street so the tire comes off the bead ( I've done this before its really not that dangerous if you're going slow ), I acciddntally did this with my first bike. Clean up the tire and the rim, apply bead sealer, reinflate with bike on center stand.

if it is a very slow leak as you say Weeks daily checks would be ok untill you fix it. just no almond joy Riding.
even if you took tire to a shop it should not be an expensive fix ,I think you will find the rim needs some cleaning

I got her on the center stand, ratchet strapped the rear end down so it lifted the front end.

Used a clamp to break the bead on the front tire, i went around whole tire with tooth brush, then whole rim with steel wool, wiped down with cloth.

Then I applied A LOT of bead sealer around the bead areas.

    NO MORE LEAKS!

Anybody have any idea why my tire pressure guage works on my 81 xs400 tires, but not my xj650 or my xs750???

If it’s the tire that came on the bike—it’s probably old. Old=unsafe. Get a new one installed.

Mine has great tread on the front tire but also has cracks between the treads. Got it in the basement with replacement tire. About to try to wrestle the tire swap on the rim.

If there are no cracks between the treads or on the side walls, I would think the rubber is still good. Got mine changed over last night and it was quite the wrestling match (a few muscle aches now). Time to get it balanced and back on the bike.
