I've been over just about everything I can find on the subject for the last few days here and my mind is mush at this point....anyway, what I've got is a cool little 83 xj650 project with a wiring nightmare looks like the PO completely stripped the stock harness out and wired the ignition/starter circuits off the simplified wiring diagram that is easily found here, and she fires right up and runsbut....I've got no lights of any sort and and nothing to go from as far as what to hook up where to the m.unit because the stock diagram is useless also my left handlebar switch containing headlight, turn, and horn is off an 08 -13 Kawi Ninja 250r.....SO....I guess what I'm wondering is does someone have or know a link to a diagram that is from scratch for the M.unit blue for this bike. I do have a really cool one for the m.unit basic which came along with the bike and looks like it probably was gathered here yet I cant seem to find it anywhere and the reason I was looking for it is because the left hand switch is laid out in the corner of the page and it is missing Sorry for the novel, just trying to relay as much info as possible to save a little back and forth on basics Any help would surely be appreciated, and if you're lucky enough to be riding today keep the wheels down, at least one of em

I went through the wiring nightmare too, I dont even have a fuse panel. Your headlight and gauge lights should turn on with the engine, if they don't I'd check the wires in the headlight. On the right side in the picture of the rear end with the fuse panel, that is one of the plugs for your rear lights. The tail light and both directionals have a black wire which is the ground. The directionals only have one wire besides that, the left is brown, the right is green. Your tail light should have 2 other connections, a blue and a yellow. The yellow is the brake that is triggered by your breaks of course, the blue is the positive wire for the running light that's on all the time.

Update. I'm all mounted. New electrics pan made. And I'm at a comlpete loss because all the diagrams I can find do something just a little bit different and it completely throwing me off. As I mention before, my left handlebar switch is off a 08-13 Ninja 250r, and the wire colors are in attached pic, If I'm correct the Blue wire that's only at the plug brought power to the headlight and then to handlebar switch on intended Ninja 250? (Cant seem to find that diagram at all) Please help and thanks in advance. Also is there like an introduction page for new members? Safe riding
P.S. Suddenly I cant upload photos

Not sure if you were looking for this also but Kawasaki 250 Ninja diagram showing left control and a document on the Motorgadget M-Unit installation and operational instructions attached.

I am not that familiar with the M-Unit, but the starter switch seems fairly straight forward particularly with no built in safety functions. The diagram that Jay supplied in the above thread to "relay or not to relay" shows how to maintain some of the safety features. It also appears to utilize kill switch function (ignition safety) at the config terminal, but Jay or Sybe may need to weigh in on that as per the instructions the kill at the config needs to be momentary, so I don't get the logic of the relay / switches in his diagram. The kill per the instruction should also work with the Aux output, which is not shown in the drawing that he provided so that would need further clarification.

Edit: the second diagram makes perfect sense and Sybe verified it worked for him. I didn't look far enough when I made the comments about the logic not making sense above.

"The other part that is throwing me off is my solenoid only has one wire coming from it and it of course grounds through the body where it mounts"

The 85 and 86 utilized a single wire starter solenoid, you should have the 2 wire solenoid on the 83. You should be able to post pics again now that you have reached 5 posts.

He is using a different starter solenoid than stock. It's in the pic of his electronics pan in the first post.
