Hey guys. I've seen this covered in a few posts for changing the crank seal and advancing the timing but I'm still having issues.

I need to replace the crank seal behind the timing plate because it's leaking. Problem is I can't get the darn timing plate bolt out. I tried a c clamp as tight as I can get it. Keeps falling off. I tried the spanner wrench from harbor freight. Pins are way too small to stay in the holes. I tried a little heat and my impact wrench but my compressor isn't strong enough. Tried a small piece of a 2x4 through the rim resting on the swingarm in gear but the plate still keeps spinning as I try to break it lose. Anyone have any thoughts as to how else I can get this thing out?

600 time.JPG are you refering to this bolt? part #2

yamaha uses a strong thread lock compound more heat to soften it.

so when you turn the bolt when in gear and rear tire secured the crank turns? and the rear wheel does not move? try releasing the clutch cable from perch.,

    Yep. That's the bolt.

Correct. In gear, rear wheel can't move because of the 2x4 but crank still turns. Takes a lot of force but eventually the crank turns about an inch. Then I start all over turning the ratchet then it turns again.

Seems like the only sure option would be some way to secure the plate and I can break it free. You think I should just keep the heat on? I wasn't sure. Didn't want to warp the plate or anything.

I was afraid to heat it up too much but I just tried again. Heated it longer and my impact wrench took it right off. No damage. Old seal out, new seal in. Just put it all back together.

    Thanks for the help.
