Castle Rock. I just picked up an '83 Seca 750. It'll be a little while before I get it on the road though...it's in desperate need of some front brake work.

Arvada. Bought my bike from a friend in Longmont last month, took about 3 weekends to get it road worthy.

Nice! Welcome to the "club". My friend and I are trying to all the rides in we can before snow falls. We should have a CO ride, let me know if you would be interested.

Still a work in progress, but after several weeks of trying to get the right parts, its back on the road.

New brakes, front and back. Steering stem bearings. Oil, filters, rewired all the electrical in the fairing, (I have no idea what was going on in there...somehow they ended up with wires connected back to themselves - probably had something to do with the fried pin on the connector) new tires, replaced a bunch of missing/mismatched/stripped fastners, new cables.

Still on the list is to check/adjust the valves, pull and clean the carbs, and get it all sync'd and tuned. Its really not running too bad though other than being completely flat up to about 2800RPM, then a sudden burst of power.

I've been using it as my daily commuter for a couple weeks now. Other than the flat spot, I really like it. Its got the full touring package, which makes it a bit more unusual. Handy to have all that storage, and that fairing is nice on the chilly fall mornings.

Word of caution: Bike Bandit seems to have some errors in their parts listings on this bike. The "All Balls" steering stem bearings they sent me weren't even close. They said they were fixing the listing, but I haven't verified that yet. Even the "right" ones aren't perfect. Then seemed a little taller than the factory bearings, which spreads the triple clamps slightly further apart, and the seals they came with are wrong. Also, the brake and clutch levers aren't even close either. The problem goes all the way back to Tucker Rocky - their catalog has them wrong too. So far I have not tracked down aftermarket ones that fit.

I'd love to get together with some other Seca enthusiasts in the area, but my weekends are pretty booked for the rest of the season.

Hey, new to the xj site and the xj bikes. I have a 81 750 Seca and I'm in north Arvada. Noticed there are few of you in the neighborhood, we will have to set up a cruise one of these days.

Lakewood Golden area. Just finishing up some general maintenance stuff. I will probably ride this winter because of those warm 50 degree days we have. Never been one to give up a ride when available.

I just finished my carb rebuild. Pay careful attention when tearing down and reassembling. Take lots of pre- disassembly pictures and notes where your jets are concerned. Swapped jets will make you cry. I also pull off my intake boots and replace the gaskets. They tend to leak and cause vacuum loss resulting in poor low end performance. I make my own gaskets using N-8092 Interface 1/32 material. It's a little tedious but the larger gaskets seal better. Just a question but have you checked your air filter? Sometimes a dirty air cleaner will create low end performance issues and destroy your gas mileage. Also keep in mind that there was a European model and a Japanese model. Both are set up differently. There is no air/fuel adjustment on the Euro models. One used the Mikuni (Euro) and the other Hitachi (Japanese) Well, have fun and feel free to drop a note if you have questions.

Good morning fellow XJ riders! Mine is almost done. Still having idle problems. 2 Carb rebuilds later. Mine was a non runner when i got her in April sat for 15 years. Also did a fork swap with Maxim forks, new seals, rebuilt calipers, master cylinder, new pads, replaced rotors. Did valve shims. Just done painting. Rebuilt the gauge cluster. FYI the Balls Out master cylinder rebuild kits will not fit the 1981 to 1983 XJ 750. The seals are to small. Anyway i am in Colorado Springs. I could use a little help with my idle problem. After the carb rebuild drove for a day or so. The idle would start to race. Parked it and started other very needed work. I could use a fresh set of eyes and ears. Anyone interested??? OH! Mine is 1983 XJ 750 Seca.

I'm in the Front Range area -- more specifically Loveland and Fort Collins. I recently acquired a 1981 XJ650. Right now, I'm just trying to make sure everything's as safe as I can, so I'm working on getting turn signals to work, I think I'll need to get a new handlebar in part so I can have mirrors that allow me to see past my shoulders without getting RSI in my wrists from a bad handlebar angle, and I want to give the brakes a serious check.

Eventually, I'd like to change a lot about the bike. I'm not exactly a purist; I like my bikes how I like them, and that typically requires changing things.

Lakewood CO here, welcome! See the Drum Brake thread by bigfitz52 in XJ Technical Chat. Then new brake lines if yours are original. Check those calipers ...bet the calipers have never been serviced. I just pulled apart the calipers on my 750 Maxim and that stuff is naaasty.

Yeah, I saw the drum brake stuff in the xjbikes forum. I hastened to get the brakes freshened up for safety's sake.

I decided against getting asbestos brake dust all over my garage, and had a local bike shop (CJM Enterprises, great service from them so far) take care of all the brakes for me: new pads, new shoes, general cleanup work on moving parts.

I've already swapped out the fuel tank, but discovered a problem with the petcock that I need to fix. I got a custom seat made, to fit with the "new" tank (which I got from xjbikes member Joe Elliff) after reconditioning and a new paint job. I still have a bunch of other work I plan to do in the near future as well, starting with hand controls, carbs, and intake manifold boots. I hope to have this thing reliable enough to make a 1700 mile (each way) road trip at the end of next summer. I might be crazy, though.

There's a picture of the bike with its swapped tank and custom seat (and with the side covers off, though that was temporary) under the "info" tab of my profile.

As things currently stand, my XJ650 is in a state of disassembly. I'm waiting on some parts from XJ4Ever to finish the current work on the bike, after which I expect it to be safer to ride, both for me and for the engine.

I still don't know of any active XJs in my area (mostly the Loveland and Fort Collins area), unfortunately. I'm keeping my eyes open for any sign of others.

I'm in Englewood! Got an '82 XJ750 last summer. Hadn't been ridden in probably 20-30 years so its been an uphill battle. Probably bit off more than I could chew but I'm hoping I'm close. I think I got some gas in my oil the other day so need to change that and figure out why my tach isn't reading anything, and then get it to idle correctly. Hopefully that is all that's keeping me from riding! Had my carbs cleaned by Pro Motorcycle Carb Service in Longmont, any of y'all used Keith? He had great reviews but the bike isn't running like I think it should so I'm worried he missed something (like why am I getting gas in my oil?).

in order for you to get gas in the oil there has to be 2 concurrent malfunctions. The vacuum petcock must not be shutting off ( or it is left in the "prime" position) and at least 1 of the float valves in the carburetors must not be shutting off the gas flow. Or the float levels are way too high. Cleaning the carbs is not quite the same as rebuilding them. If the bike has not been used in that period of time they most likely need some new bits and parts and fettling. No offense to your guy. These carbs are pretty user friendly with some study. But you do have put some study and effort into them. Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

Just picked up an'83 XJ900 Seca to keep my '83 XJ750 Seca that I bought 13 years ago company. The last thing I needed was another project, but it was too good a deal to pass up and in all the time I've had my 750, I've never seen another 900 for sale in these parts.

She's in desperate need of carb work (barely starts and won't idle or run without choke), and I found out in another thread that somebody mounted the electrical box under the seat sideways. How the...??

I'm assuming brakes will be in order, though they don't seem as bad as the 750 was when I bought it. Fluid change and lines for sure. Haven't had time to go through it in detail yet, beside the electrical foobar it doesn't seem like it's had too many ham-fisted repairs over the years. Has less than 24K miles on it and looks pretty sharp of you look past the peeling clear coat on the engine covers.

I'm down in Castle Rock if anybody else is in the area.

(Unfortunately, I neglected to take any decent beauty shots before squeezing it into the back of the garage so I could put the car away)
