Did you put hoses on your vents or just leave them?

There should be a large hole in bowl area that leads to those vent tubes, hard to block or clog those.. I'm still leaning towards low fuel level.

There are hoses on them from the factory, I still have them. Thinks it's saver to direct fuel away from the hot engine. Of course this only happens when the carbs flow over.

You see how hard it would be to clog that circuit....

    Ok........
    1. You have fuel flow "fast"from tank to secondary container..check
    2. You have unobstructed venting...check
Only other thing that can effect the flow of fuel is the float level. if its set way too low, they will close and cut off fuel flow.

If what you have told me in 1 and 2 are correct, then float level is your problem...

Looks like you’ve got the same bike I do. A friend did a bunch of work on it before I started working on it. So things like those hoses weren’t on it. I really appreciate your input.

Glad I could help. Yes we have the same bike. I'm the lucky owner of an almost mint condition 86 xj700x, 99% original. Love this bike, I've had more X's over the years but this one is sooo pretty...
