    Hello XJ lovers,

I love the xj bikes from the 80`s, they are so rad !! I am thinking to buy a Seca 750 from this guy who took meticulous care of it over the years, its road ready. The only thing I am wondering is if he only drove it 50 kilometers per year, would that be a problem for the bike ? Things I should be expecting to fix right away ?

    Cheers !

50km a year is better than just sitting. If he truly took meticulous care and it’s road ready that’s more important than how often it was used. As with any bike if that age you’ll have to do your due diligence when inspecting.

Do you think this 40 year old yamaha`s parts will break down faster from road usage rather than let`s say a 2006 yamaha fz6 or suzuki boulevard m50 ?

Of course the XJ will be much more prone to problems as it is 40 years old. The rubber parts are the 1st to go as they dry rot.
This can be fixed if you have the desire. As you say you love the XJ’s and this is a primo example. I have original carb throttle shaft seals in one XJ. If this one you’re looking at is always garaged and babied it could be trouble free for many years.

Hi, thank you, I appreciate you. The bike has been babied and well taken care of, this is the 1st year he stored it in an outside shed instead of the garage. I am unable to make any repairs on a motorcycle as I do not have that knowledge or skill so I admire the XJ`s but stress any repairs that will be needed in the near future.

Non sense these bikes are easy to maintain even a novice can do it. Keep the oil changed , plugs and a good battery maintained and a good set of tires and should be good to go. Many items are wear and tear items. Please realize even buying a newer bike it is the same thing.

    1. Oil and filter (recommend Shell 10/40 diesel oil )

    2. Recommend an AGM sealed battery ( ain't cheap but will last a long time.

    3. Check the date on the tires id more than 5 years old replace.

    4. Replace the front brake pads and rear shoes period don't take a chance.

    5. Recommend replace front brake hoses unless these are already upgraded to braided hoses.

    6. If fuse block is still glass fuses upgrade to a blade type fuse block ( this is cheap get a four post block about 12 $

    7. As far as tools an adjustable wrench , a flat blade screw driver, a Japanese standard screw driver ( looks like a Phillip's but is different), a set of metric wrenches up to 19mm , a set of sockets and a ratchet . You can get this at Harbor Freight cheap , pick up a service manual-eBay, Amazon.

    8. If bike runs well and still has stock airbox ...don't mess with the carbs . Mistake many people make is to rip out the airbox and put POD airfilters on , and if your new to bikes and carbs it can cause poor running.

    9. On the upper corner of the home page click on xj4ever, Chacal has most parts for these wonderful bikes and read the information overload section all useful.

Follow along grasshopper I rebuilt a 100$ engine and frame and sold it on , recentlybought another Seca for 100$ trying to decide what I'm going to do with it as it is a no title bike. My other Seca is stored away for winter. These bikes are addictive lol . The attached picture , the red bike was the bike that was an engine and a frame, the yellow bike is my daily driver , the other three pictures is my newest addition
