How did you repair the corroded frame or is that a replacement?

    Hi Franz.

I do have a spare frame but I cut out the rust a couple on mm,s either side of the rusted part and found that the rest of the tube was in very good condition. A friend who is a good welder was able to graft in some new steel and it now looks as good as new . The rust had run along the seam where the tube was manufacture that also happened to line up with the lowest part . It had rusted from inside out so obviously had some water trapped so I have dilled a couple of drain holes in each side now . 20230125_095942.jpg 20230107_151809.jpg

I had water in my frame. I might drill a drain hole too. How did he join them? Did he fit an insert to bridge one of the joints and weld the end of the other joint?

I didn't take any photos of the repair being done . But we cut out the rusted portion then made a piece out of thin plate radiused a curve on it the seem welded then ground it off to a near invisible repair . The frame wasn't badly rusted inside .

Can't get more than 120km from the sea in NZ so it's always a good ride to the coast

    Hi they are Krauser panniers.
I bought the kit over 30 year's ago in the UK.
They do come up for sale the main panniers and fixing are fairly universal and you can make your own mounting brackets.

Thanks for the info. That's a long time ago... hmmm I guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open, maybe consider some Givi ones and get someone to make a rack to fit.
    Cheers.

Nice Autumn day yesterday and no work so great excuse to get out for a ride.
Done a few hundred Km,s and checked fuel economy 18km/l not too bad .
I have done just over 20,000km,s since rebuild now and bike going great . Uses a bit of oil about 1/4 litre every 1000km,s but I can live with that . No 3 choke seems to be overchoking so will have to get carbs off again during winter layup . Its Autumn here so winter on its way . 20240416_135543.jpg 20240416_135621.jpg 20240416_150758.jpg 20240416_150802.jpg

I have been living with a misfire from Cold Start on No 2 cylinder for sometime . After about 30 seconds and I switch off choke it runs sweet . I have done valve clearances plugs plug caps etc . It also has good compression so I am putting it down to a choke issue on that carb. Luckily I have 2 spare sets of carbs so will give one set a clean out and ultrasonic clean then swap and see if it cures my poor cold start issue ... 20240616_183045.jpg
