Hi all, been a while since I've posted here but some of you might remember me. I've been enjoying my XJ750 since I completed the resto and have done a lot of riding since then. Coming up on Summer maintenance and having just completed a long-range motorcycle trip in Australia on a Suzuki GZ250, when I came back I was looking to add some of the luggage I bought to my XJ. As I had realized before, there doesn't seem to have been a ton of aftermarket luggage / rack availability for the XJ's even back in the 80s, and there seems to be even fewer options now. Fortunately, I took a chance on a vintage luggage rack on Ebay after locating a bracket kit marketed for a 81 Xj750 RH, and it payed off - read on :)

The rack I found is often listed on Ebay under the name "KG Engineering", "K&G Engineering", "KG rack" etc.
KG Engineering was a US based luggage rack maker in the 80s that manufactured a common rack system that was compatible with a range of bikes. The rack system is composed of three pieces, which can all be mounted together or some separately. These are:

1.KG-OR6 (Sport Carrier), KG-OR-15 (Touring Carrier) This particular rack seems to be the "Omni II"
    2. OS-50 (Sissy Bar)
    3. Grab bar (unknown model number)
    4. K-308 Mounting Spacer (Yamaha XJ-750 RH (Seca) 81)

I will attach some pictures of the instructions that come with the K-308 kit as well as some pictures of the mounted accessories. I decided not to mount the grab bar since the Seca already has one.

If you can pick up one of these racks on Ebay, you should be able to fit this rack provided you purchase the correct "Mounting Spacer" kit for your bike. Originally this rack came off of a Honda CB750.

Nice find. I have one of these racks w/ sissy bar (a glimpse in my profile pic), installed by the original owner. I'd never found any details on it. Any chance of finding the little rubber inserts for the top of the rack. I think I'm down to 1 remaining. LOL.

Yeah there is a set of new rubber on Ebay right now if you have to have original ones:

AWESOME. Thank you. Snagged a set. I'd thought of cutting my own from some rubber mats I have, but never got around to it.

While out for lunch, I grabbed a few shots of my rack/bar (with tail bag). I thought I'd gotten a clear angle of the mount points, but clearly not:

Where did you get the front fairing? I have an 83 XJ750K and have thought about adding one.

Amazingly, those strips came in on Friday or Saturday already. Didn't ahve time to take off my tail bag and put them on, but did test-fit one. Considering some type of semi-permanent adhesive . . . .

I believe it and the rack were dealer-added upgrades the P.O. had installed. I once asked him about them, but 15 years after he bought the bike, he didn't really remember. Pretty much all the details I know are here: https://www.xjbikes.com/forums/threads/re-re-reviving-my-81-seca-750.131232/page-2#post-672356
